This past weekend was an awesome early ride for my group, great early snow conditions, decent weather and overall our sleds ran great. We sign in and out at the cabin like we are supposed to but on friday when my bud signed us out he said that there was 4 or 5 guys smoking pot in the cabin, said it reeked horribly. Unfortunately he told me this on the way home and I lost my s/!t which maybe was wise because if I knew at the time there would have been some loosers getting there asses kicked right out that front door. This leads me to many questions, what makes them think that they have the right to lite up in the cabin, what were they thinking? Does the cabin clearly state inside that there is to be no smoking, drinking or coarse language? No smoking means no smoking of anything does it not? So what has to happen now that weed is legal, should these scum be allowed anywhere near the cabin smoking there joints? Can they stand outside on the balcony and lite up? This is a cabin that quite often has young children in and around it, what should the ruling be? Also you have these people getting stoned and driving around the hill baked outta there minds, are they going to hurt an innocent person?, absolutely its just a matter of time, or better yet going down to thier vehicles and driving home endangering more people just in an 8000 pound weapon intead of a 600 pound one. I think that the snomobile clubs need to enforce something but better yet I call upon any civil person that encounters any of this lunacy to stop it immediately, there has to be many more responsible snowmobilers than there is scumbag pothead loosers that call themselves snomobilers. I want a zero tolerance around the cabins myself and there is no excuse or exeption to make it acceptable, I cant stop anyone from smoking on the hill but I guess I think that they deserve whatever happens to them as long as they dont kill someone else in the meantime. There is some very important sponsers that will want no part of this pot problem I am sure so lets band together and nip this early if possible, unfortunately this is one of millions of problems that are going to arise in our future, mark my words, cant wait to hear your opinions but please think of this as a post to raise awareness and keep this problem of our future at bay, we have enough people trying to take our riding areas away, lets not give them any more reasons please..... Rant over.

A great post and a great start to a discussion. I absolutely believe that a strong stand needs to be taken and I would hope that smokers would have common sense to not make an issue. Surely, they could see that they are in the minority and being a public place that there choice of behaviour would not be acceptable to the majority. In reality, it will need to be addressed at all back-country shelters/cabins.

Hey Catman10

I was up Boulder the weekend before with the same results. There was 7-8 guys getting the cabin hot boxed. I went in to sign out and it hazy in there. I make a quick reference that just because the Government said its legal doesn't mean that the sign above the door doesn't need to be followed. I got no response. I don't like drinking or smoking with sledding. I agree, this will be an issue and needs to be clarified and back by the government and snowmobile clubs. If they don't follow the rules than they can no longer ride at these public areas.

May just need more enforcement. Be it on the hill or parking lot.

Personally, if you want to bring a beer up to enjoy with your lunch at the cabin, that doesn't bother me, it's the Guys packing 6 beers or Mickie's (or even seen a full 26 go down between 2 guys in an afternoon..) that ruin it for everyone else. And who don't pack in / pack out. The dope situation I heard from Jorgy last weekend was the same thing you guys saw, probably the same day, bunch of guys hot boxing inside that there was a haze. You wouldn't sit in there and smoke cigarettes until the cabin filled up with haze, so I don't know what's so much more 'cool' with dope. No one wants to come sit down and enjoy their lunch with a cabin smelling like pot. They should send the law up on sleds a few times this year to send the message.

There, my rant over.

Good point.
And...... why is drinking in public(cabin) deemed acceptable?
These are public spaces so my take on it would be no weed OR booze.
Right? Or wrong?
Because having a beer is a completely different animal. I can quietly have a beer in the corner and no one is the wiser. Now, if I was shaking the can and spraying everyone, well then I guess it would be the same.

Guys have been drinking beer and smoking left handers on the hill forever I don’t know if I’ve ever been in cabin where someone isn’t having a beer. Smoking cigarettes or pot is different because it’s intrusive to others especially inside an enclosed space like the cabin but your never going to stop it outside. The thing with being an adult is you suppose to be able to have a beer (not 10) and still drive it’s actually the way the law is written otherwise impairment level would be set at 0.00. I agree if you wanted to curb it have the cops set up in the parking lot multiple times a year it’s the best deterrent.

Good rant Catman10, i feel the exact same and yes i have literally told 4 dudes to take it out side at the Owls Head cabin in Sicamous last season and on another occasion told a guy to pickup his garbage at Blue lake. I have no problem telling ANYONE to get their **** together in their face.....that is what happen's when you do 2 tour's in Bosnia and one in Cypress, no joker on a sled doping up or just being an arse even compares to a Croate with an AK. So i can get a little grumpy and very anal about someone upsetting my otherwise awesome day.

Cameras might help....provide the video to RCMP....might be a deterrent but likelihood of prosecution and conviction would be limited.

get the cops to go to the staging area's mid day and nail these guys coming back to their trucks. Impairment on anything motorized would wake a few of them. up.

you guys get so worked up.... You got a problem with something someone is doing speak up or shut your mouth. Why is it you can call someone a scumbag behind a keyboard but you dont have the kahonnas to step up and say something, getting physical and kicking some ass is definitely the proper way....I find it so funny the close mindedness behind a lot of you old timers, get with the times. This is legal now in Canada weather you want it or not. That being said the cabin is not the place to smoke weed or slam your lunch time beers.

I'll tell you what my honest problem is. I'm 23. The two guys that I saw splitting a 26 in the cabin were at least in their 40's. A lot of the beer-drinkers (not all, obviously) are a much older crowd compared to me. Which makes it hard to walk up to them and have them actually give a chit with what I say.

I'm also not trying to be a keyboard warrior, but hopefully someone who is in their same age range or older can walk up to them and try giving them a wake-up message because it's much more difficult from my perspective.

If I ever come across someone doping up in any cabin there will be words trust me and if the potheads wanna take me on well they are gonna have a big Dutchboy all over them and it won't be pretty, cameras is an excellent idea but may not practical, I would donate money to that because people have no right to hotbox in a family small enclosed place. I love the idea of Police involvement and would want people charged if they are impaired but I think that we do not have enough officers to deal with the problems already at hand. I didn't start this rant for any other purpose other than I hoped that people will maybe now stand up to these losers and constantantly be on them so that nobody is smoking pot in our precious cabins, as I said do it elsewhere, there is a place for it and its not around my kid or any of yours.

This is a tough one. On one hand, smoking anything inside the cabin is not cool at all, especially drugs. But what does a guy do about it? I would be effin choked if I went in the cabin to dry off and it was hotboxed with that crap. But at the same time, with no real authority, what does a person do? If you say something to them you always risk starting a physical confrontation. Maybe Im getting old, but I have no interest in that or the assault charge that could come with it.

9 times out of 10, when you approach these individuals and voice your problems you will be met with a F**k you or something along those lines. I just avoid the cabin all together if i can help it.

One of the reasons I avoid cabins.
Usually disappointed in what I see.
I don't buy the it's only a few, personally I am OK with policing the hills.
If you can't fix stupid - cuff'm and lock'm up.
