4 Stroke or nothing

Ive been riding 4 strokes now for a combined total of 12 years...learned lots and been having a blast riding them.

Don’t think I’m going to jump on this one...don’t really like the idea of cutting the roll off....I thought the weak ones were the ones with CR 174 cut into the tunnel? Mine just has the polished aluminum plate.

Lol I still have it don't use it much was thinking of selling it, jump on it when I need a arm pulling experience.

I have seen a few over the years in Revy but only a few.
CR built one for Darrick Bannister owner Banner, the BRP dealer in Kelowna. My understanding is it ripped but was very $$$$ to build.

Supposedly the 1200 Darren (parts guy at Kelowna yami now) has is as good or better than a nypex... He used to work with Dave at powder lites and they did a few, no idea never seen it run yet

I have been riding a customized Nytro for 6 years now and it’s still going strong. My riding group is starting to get a few more 4strokes in it. Last spring ride there was 5 Nytros together. It felt like yamafest fort St. John style. This spring I am going to plan a bigger Yamaha ride and round up some more.

2012 Cat Turbo 1100. Took me about 5 years to get it perfect. Nothing like 265 horses of reliable arm ripping power. Get on and ride! Built a few good sleds in my time. This one is in the top two and it's a toss up which would be number one. I work hard in certain conditions (or at least the guys pulling me out do...lol), but it's just soooo much fun riding the 4S turbo. Would be real hard to go back to two stroke. Think it would leave me very disappointed. New Yammi engine is a great step in the right direction, lighter, better balanced, really easy to add big HP. Only get's better from here.

Only on my second 4 stroke sled! Traded my summit xm for a fully built nytro that was over 300hp on av gas
Full motor build and there wasn’t much that was stock, 174 3”

Sadly this is the only pic I have of it , I then sold that and upgraded to my sidewinder which just has a cr straight pipe giving it a few extra ponies! All my buddy’s are still on 2 strokes but they sure are grinning after they get off my sled!

Just recently did a handlebar/riser upgrade to some cfr stuff and going to be changing the stock clutch weights out for 8LR00 weights ! Excited to see the difference

Re: weight. My 17king cat with bumpers, B&M skinny boards, tool kit, belt, mtn addiction can/bag and EVO can weighs in at 660.4 lbs fully fueled and ready to ride. I’ve also installed a vertical post from the viper on it

They were never cheap to build, nor were they easy, but that was part of the appeal. I built 9 of them from 09-15. 10-11's were the best motors to build off of IMO. Motors are bombproof. Take one of them apart and take a Nytro/APEX motor apart and it's like comparing a Medium duty diesel engine to a light duty. Everything is heavier in it.

Compared to a Nytro/Apex/1100 the Rotax felt almost lazy. It never felt like it was working. Our flatland 1200 with a 137 can trail ride at 70mph at 55-6000 rpm all day long. It only takes a slight increase in RPM to lift the skis When I ride similar power level kits back to back, the 1200 feels like a diesel engine whereas the others feel like a gas. It's hard to explain, but the power the 1200 can build is addicting. Motor was never designed for the power BRP tuned it to, nor was it designed by Rotax. Few probably know that Petronas/BMW designed the 1200. It was designed heavier than what it even came out on the market as, but Rotax decided to cut a bit of cost for production lightened it up a bit.

I've rode 4stroke since 2003, the RX1 was heavy but the torque was so addictive. Then came turbos nothing compares to them for giggle factor. I honestly don't think I will ever own or ride a 2stroke ever again.

First pic was about 2.5-3 ft of fresh pow with the turbo viper. Pic 2 is when the viper came home for the first time. Pic 3 is my stock mountain attack. Has a 156x2.5 extreme track apex a arms. Engine is stock. My avatar pic shows my Tapex

Still miss my 1100 turbo from time to time, especially when there is snow like in the last pic of 3' of pow lol. I find its much more fun 90% of the time on my 2 stroke snow pony but that 10% super deep days sure makes it tempting to buy another one

When the snow is nipple deep I love the Turbo apex. Blue river we got into 5ft of fresh and only trail broke was by the boosted Apex's

Have one of each. You'll have everything covered depending how you feel and how much snow there is.

I did for awhile in 2013 and 2014 and it was the best of both worlds, but decided I wanted to upgrade the house to a better one lol so I sold the turbo to help furnish the new one. Also sold the enclosed and downgraded to a 2 place open deck after that as there is usually just two of us on most trips and I just couldnt justify hauling that thing all the time when it was partially empty. One of these years though I will snag one up again, lots of used 4 stroke turbos around for a nice $$$, might happen sooner than later lol
