I got on an Alpha and I wasn't impressed. There was a father/son combination trying out the tippyness and they were impressed with how easy it laid over. IMHO, my G4 is way easier to get on it's side. It kind of reminded me of the old Rev. Specialty sleds had a sweet G4 in Lava Red set up. i'm glad I ordered black and can dress it up with a custom wrap.

I would say they are the same for putting on side. Tried both side by side in shop on weekend.
What makes the Cat feel different is how long the track on the Cat stays flat on ground with sled tilted = major traction advantage.
The others have a lot stiffer edge of track...even doo.
Don't kick it to hard till it gets snow under the track.

Its only a major traction advantage if you ride hard pack.

Honestly i didnt see very many sick sleds, what i did see what ALOT of wraps, and some belt drives and some turbos. otherwise stock machines. To me a sick machine is one that has been modified top to bottom, and i dont think you really see that anymore. even the turbo game, people think u just buy a kit and put it in and its "pump gas ready"...... NOOOT there is waaaay more to it, i didnt really see any of that there. about the only guy that had a bunch of the stuff needed to actually build a sick sled was redline turbos, but i dont like to endorse em cause he rips other people products off and markets them as his own.

Kenny at mountain magic has some assume looking sleds all done up if your looking to see some good looking sleds if that's what your looking for but most sleds can put the average rider in more trouble than he can handle. So I think that's why you don't see as many modded sleds up their as their use to be, have a safe and good season

I didn't see mountain magic at the show, don't remember seeing them there last year either. They used to have a fair sized both/area with them in the past. Always loved eye fawkN them sleds. Specialty had the best "eye candy" sleds IMO.

I think booth costs and show politics just drove them away from the show. I believe they have an Open House at their store day of show and offer big discounts on product to their customers instead.

Not a fan of the direction the show has went that last 5-6 years. Barely about sleds anymore, its all the secondary industries/attractions surrounding it. Kind of annoying when you're there to go look at some nice sleds and there is 10 hotel/lodging booths offering a $5 discount on there rooms...

Its only a major traction advantage if you ride hard pack.

I disagree with this statement. Actually I see it 100% the opposite way. On hardpack all the weight is positioned in the center of the track and not so evenly distributed like a 2 rail design would be. Assuming there is some flex in the fibreglass rods, there would be minimal force downward on the outer 1/3 edges of the track. So I would assume the traction will suck on flat hard-pack compared to a 2 rail system. In deep snow the track will be fine as it will have equal forces downward in all locations once the fibreglass rods bend to their happy point. If you are on a side-hill things get interesting though, the tracks that twist to the hill will stay more at the angle of the hill and tend to slide down when they spin. Tracks that cut in and set a horizontal bench will hold the hill better. I think the Alpha will find conditions that it will dominate too. It will be where the track can flex and mold around uneven ground.

My experience comes from sleds of old that had many bogie wheels, they put forces down all over the track and even though those sleds had minimal length and shortest lugs they had surprisingly good traction. IMHO

When I talked to Ken at MM about two weeks ago for a turbo he said he was not going to show.
But there was to be a party at his shop last Friday.
Specialty was there.

Didn't make to the show.............was afraid of the huggin bunny!
And I had work to do.....like spend my $900 in Cat cash at dealership.
