So as a relatively old guy who grew up in the era of "ski doo suits" which were the original Monosuits back in the early '70's I have resisted trying a Monosuit on this principle alone.... Now its time to get some new gear again and would like to get feedback from those who have tried Monosuits. Would you get another one? Pro's Con's? Brand suggestions? I'm coming off the FXR Mountain gear and have been quite pleased with its performance except for the waterproof lining ripping in the arm pits. I generally ride moutains in BC in warmer weather so looking for a non-insulated set up. Thanks!

Jim I made the switch this year so go for it. Hopefully mine will be here when you arrive. If not the gang from Tobe will be at the Edmonton show so you can put your hands on all models there. Nothing but a great experience with Tobe so far.

Wore a Tobe 2.0 suit all last season. The suspender straps not having enough adjustment is my only gripe, other than that awesome suit!

I went and tried the FXR CX insulated and the CX lite non-insulated today. It would take a little bit getting used to for me seeing I haven't worn one in 35yrs lol. But I did like it and might consider one in the near future.

Thanks guys for the feedback! At noon today I popped out and tried a couple on. I liked the Tobe but the one I tried on did not have zippers on the legs which would be a PIA. Some others did have the zippers just not in colours that I liked. Tried the Klim suit on and it was decent but the one I tried had a nylon inner liner which seemed like it could hold moisture. Tobe was around $1100, the Klim around $900, then I tried the Klim Valdez shell jacket and the Towagotee bib pants - whopping $1400 for that set! Unreal... here's hoping the Edmonton show has some decent deals.

If you go Friday or early Saturday there usually is decent deals on end of year stock. The Tobe suit was $1100 retail. Tax in I got it for $650

My biggest reason to not wear one is just previous experience of tearing gear or having water proofing issues. With a pant/bib and separate jacket I can always replace one if it fails and not replace the other or I also can switch my upper layer, being my shell to something thinner/thicket as the conditions warrant. I tend to travel with 2 upper shells which offer different levels of protection and I can upgrade to something new with relatively low investment where as a new mono suit again, for top tier stuff is pushing $1000 or likely more at full retail.

I bought a FXR suit at the show 2 seasons ago as an experiment cuz they were on sale for $300.00 and I will not go back, lots of room, I stay dry and I find the overall temp to be super consistent, but mine does not have a liner so in the cold mornings I throw a sweat shirt on underneath and all is good, I just bought a second one!

I think if I can get a good deal on a Monosuit then I'll shoot the puck, otherwise I think Danny has a good point about if it gets ripped or torn you're out the entire grand... vs pants and jacket its only half that assuming just one item fails.

FXR now makes a suit that I believe is called the Dri-Link two piece monosuit. The top and bottom can be zippered together as a monosuit or unzipped like a two piece. Possibly the best of both worlds.

my brother and myself ride with the motorfist monosuits and we are both very happy. My brother had a rip on his and he sent it in, $50 later it was looking good a new. The rip was clearly not a defect. Awesome customer service and very high quality on the suit.

I rode klim pants and jacket before this and will never go back. Klim was great but staying dry and warm is so much easier with the suit.

Only downside is when you take off the top it hangs and drags on the floor and is in the way..... wish i could unzip the top from the bottom sometimes.

I went with the insulated fxr monosuit a couple years ago as I got a good deal and actually found a size that fit well, it's got its pros and cons. The insulated suit is super warm and I've always stayed dry. Rode -28 last year with no complaints on the suit. Really good quality with the FXR stuff, but apparently it won't hold up to a saw. whoops.

My complaints are that there's not enough venting on it and with the insulated suit anything -5 or warmer it would be nice to have more. They hang low in the crotch with makes mobility a little harder when swinging legs around but I didn't notice it too much when actually riding. Tightening up the suspenders inside made this a bit better for sure. Also with the insulated suit, its heavy and unlike the jacket/pant combo, all that weight is on your shoulders. I think with an uninsulated suit, and base and mid layers being a shirt/pant setup and just a light shell on top of that, the weight thing would be long gone and forgotten.
