Pulling the pin wouldn't work. Gooseneck trailer (Not a 5er) if I'm not mistaken.

That video is gonna be very valuable for insurance purposes and YouTube royalties.

I know it's easy to say this but in two seconds you could pull the 5th wheel lock and at least save the truck.

Ya I bet CN would love to see the video.....trying to beat a train at the crossing....truck owner not so much. Would his insurance even cover his personal losses for being negligent?

No evidence on this video of trying to beat a train. He could have been stuck there a long time before train came along...

There is no proof that he tried to out run the train to make the crossing. He could have got stuck 20 minutes before the train came, thought he had time to get the truck and trailer out and before he knew it a train was coming and panic set in.

My speculation- Looked like the left side of trailer is up on edge of snow. If it was winged by grader wouldn’t be much higher than road then the trailer prob dropped through crust and there he sat on the hard packed just spinning even in 4wd. Would of had to crank trailer up. They are a ball hitch. Very crappy way to end trip but glad they were out of truck. Being stuck and hearing that train coming would be panic

Those CN engines have onboard cameras - I would like to see their video! Good chance that I know the train crew, would like to hear their version.

That is what insurance is for...it covers negligence and dumb-assery...not saying that is the case here...**** happens.

I bet if he had winter tires that would have never happened. With winter studded tires that truck would pull the trailer off that bank in 2 wheel drive.

In them hills.
Unfortunately pretty sure any claim with a train involved is an at fault
Not if it is found that the crossing isn't maintained properly.

Heatd of a guy from town getting a payout cause his water trailer got hung up on the tracks because they didn't have the earth work done to a certain standard.

Jesus everyone has an opinion. At least everyone made it out safe. Trailer slid, hooked up on bank, fell through, had winter tires..... keep speculating. Everyone made it out ok. If you weren’t there you really have no place to speak on the topic
didnt you know, this is Snow and Judge, everyone makes assumptions with no facts

Oh I know and I expect it. Just in a situation like this let it be

Might be the time to have a good discussion about what happened. Use it as a lessons learned to help find the route cause of what happened leading up to the event, what tires were on the truck, what could have been done differently, and any positive outcomes.

The first POSITIVE I see is that everyone got out if the truck safely. People are number one.

I’d like to know if you need to make a left hand turn directly before the tracks. If so did he cut the corner a bit?

Secondly, I’d like to know what kinda tires he was running. Your post says winter but having a snowflake on oversized tires doesn’t mean winter rubber.

I dont think anyones takng shots at the driver but lots can be learned here.
