How much are you spending ?? $$$$

I spend roughly $7-8000 a year, about 8-10 trips to the mtns per year, and some riding at home as well as parts for sleds ( wrecks and upgrades) and a small budget for buying new gadgets and gear, new sled every 3-4 years as well so if you factor in sled depreciation add another 2-2500 per year. Now I have the wife starting to ride a bit so that adds a little more

I did TWO tours in Europe, both in conflict zones and i quickly figured out how fragile life truly is. How over night thing's can change in a blink of an eye.
Don't ever think we are different, cause we're not.
When i got back i never looked back, as long as my health is intact and i can walk i will continue to enjoy life the way i choose and sledding is part of my life. Fact is, too many take thing's for granted in this Canadian society, that tomorrow will be just another day, go to work pay into RRSP and do it all over again. While we gripe over petty BS that might interfere with our life style.
This is a very small world and getting smaller every day. Many thought the same as you till that certain morning came and their life changed for ever. Don't ever think it cannot happen here.

You can call it an obsession, i call it "living it" while you or i can.

How much i spend, don't know but less then when i was younger. Maybe because i ride not as reckless as before.

That's the gamble, its about priorities, wake up one morning and your world is upside down like many other's in this world. Or one day you realize life has past you by either by age or sickness. Will you give a rat's about priorities then?

Just under 500 for a weekend staying two nights, including everything but the sled, and tow rig expense of owning them. Longer trips get cheaper per day. The 1000km in the pickup sure adds up.

probably around 5500 a season not including the endless miles put on the truck and a new trailer this season. average weekend is 450-650 not including repairs. mostly drive from Edmonton to Fernie or Valemount. GF is getting into it and riding the old sled so the 30 dollar meals turn into 60 and the 30 dollar beers turns into 70 for beer and wine.

Money well spent 40x to the alpine so far this season. It all costs money dont really care im worried about the day i cant do it anymore. Have fun ride hard

Average $1000 a trip for food, fuel and accommodations. Break downs and damage are extra.

Cost is roughly $400 in fuel just for the round trip in my truck. 900km one way. I’m jealous of you guys going on 10 trips a season...

Guys that are spending 1000 a trip where are you staying and buying your gas at? Or is it because of long drives to get there? What makes the trip cost 1000 for a weekend of riding?

1100km travel one way to Revy from Fort Mac, diesel $1.20+ a liter, premium varies and usually try to pack fuel from Alberta to save a few bucks. The Best Western was pricey and going out for supper every night isn’t cheap either. It doesn’t take long to add up.

Rode once before my right knee was replaced, knee replaced December 13, 2017. Now on Sunday will be my second ride since knee replacement. Awaiting left knee replacement and it can't come soon enough. Good luck with yours!!!

I was awake at 3:30am and thought I would figure out how many days I have ridden this year. I am at 8 days since Jan 3 2018. While i was doing that some low life that was cruising back alleys at 4 am and can't drive a sharpe stick into a snow bank, backed through my fence. Now I need to buy some vinyl planks to fix that. I heard it but couldn't get to a window quick enough to see the prick take off. I didn't ride last year due to hours cut at work and I didn't think I could afford to. My hours are still cut to 4 days a week but I have changed my schedule so that I can avoid before and after school care for my youngest daughter. I drive my wife to work in here Civic and use it to run around town instead of driving my truck to and from work. I drive a 2004 chev that I can fix myself without taking it to a dealer to be scammed. Haven't driven more than 2 hours from home to ride and have slept in my own bed every night except one. My biggest expense is trying to get the rest of my family interested in sharing my passion for sledding. I have bought more crashed or blown up sleds then I can count to piece together machines for others to ride. By next weekend I hope to have the fleet up to 5 running machines. If anyone needs some Yamaha Phazer or Enticer parts let me know, once I have the Phazer 2 up and running I am going to yard sale all the extra parts. Might be in need of another job to pay off my Visa this Spring but I have lost 20lbs since November and when I wake up with a sore back it isn't from sitting on the couch watching TV. My physical fitness was so bad last summer that I wrecked my back moving flats of water for a Canada Day event. I spent more money on Chiropractic and massage to fix that then I have on sledding so far this year. We have changed or life style to reflect my income rather than trying to keep up with the Jones's. Had a good ride yesterday and plan to ride the poker rally at Bentley today and the rally at eckville tomorrow. Maybe I can get lucky an win some cash to go toward my fence repair.

Now that it is light out I may have gotten lucky the panels look like they popped out and didn't all break.

Bought a place in the mountains of BC - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Megacab 1 ton - $$$$$$$
3 mountain sleds - $$$$$
Enclosed 4 place set up like a nightclub - $$$$$

Riding with my two boys and good buddies - ABSOLUTELY worth every penny!

Never seen a hearse with a trailer so enjoy at whatever level you can swing. As my Grandpa told me at his 85th birthday... there will come a time when all you have left are memories so make sure they are REAL GOOD ONES!

I served in the same unit as Lund back in the day, that is how we met and basically he brained wash me by talking and telling me about sledding day in and day out, he never shut up. I think it was a way to cope with reality out there. I just listen to this guy ramble on, but now I find it has been a great release for me.
I'm retired from the forces but still contract out as a civi instructor to the military. I'm also single so I just have myself to worry about.
I have been involved in sledding for less then 10 years and my expense has slowly gone up from new sled to better gear and so on.
I suspect I will spend about 2500-3000 this season, in fuel and motel's alone. That is what it would cost for a week in Mexico for me.
What I get out of sledding, I cannot put a price tag on it. I believe that is what has helped both of us to deal with certain aspect of our lives that impacted our well being.

Story of my life right there lol insurance won’t pay for mine even though it was because of a drunk driver.

After I read Lund's response and now yours I figure there is more to your stories. Also reading the book "thank you for your service" I am glad that sledding has given you guys and hopefully other veterans a way to cope.And I figure what ever sledding costs is priceless to you guys.

Crazy thing , I read this this morning. And found out tonight that my neighbor has inoperable brain tumour with a year to live tops. 45 ish years old. Unreal how fast can change before you. Really make a guy think about things.
