Wouldn't the SOS go back to the base station?
Do the radios communicate via VHF/UHF back to the base station or via GPS?
I guess you could uplink the base station.

If you guys had memory maps installed on your phones, one push of the zastone gps button you could see exactly where your buddies where using your phone. Just one more step is all.

But definitely a better option than the Rihno.
What base station? GPS is receive only you can't transmit on that. There are only a handful of 2 way sat services, none are free. You seem to not be understanding how these thing work, they are UHF/VHF with a built in GPS They can only transmit there GPS position over the UHF/VHF and will only work in those effective ranges.

I am curious as to how they have that rigged up. Obviously someone has done their homework there.
Does the base station sit in the office or the field truck?
Can it go through their repeater?
We don't know that they are not paying for a 2-way service.........

Basically the same as the rhino but with a way better radio. Hard to know if it would work through a repeater. I would think it would be sending the info through the same method that DCS codes are sent.

It's one way communication through a simplex VHF frequency. So even if we are communicating verbally though a repeater the GPS position transmission happens over simplex (no repeater). For example we responded to call up Owlshead and were on the Queest repeater for coms and there was a section of the trail where our incident command lost our tracking position but then picked it up again when we got closer to the cabin. Still had voice communication but lost the GPS tracking. We use it more as tool for the search manager to see exactly where the field teams are without needing to waste huge time relaying GPS coordinates verbally. They can also track search progress and grid searches in real time rather than waiting for us to return to base and uploading the info from handheld GPS units.
I would imagine each company would have there own proprietary methods.

So after many years having radios and just programming them on handheld unit I somehow fumbled thru chirp and got em set up with the same file Skegpro posted, thanks Dude! 
Had a couple uv-5ra and a couple uv-5tp, got em set up the same, not sure exactly how I figured it out but they seem to work! Always been happy with these radios and for the price of the accessories I’ve gotten a collection of antennas and mic’s, going to be paying attention to this thread for info on some of the radios mentioned, great info here!

Hmm must be locked if it won't go into the menu. Try holding the bottom right key for a couple seconds. Then Try menu again.
Good luck navigating the menus in Chinese tho.
Best bet is to grab a programming cable and download chirp.
