A guy i rode with month ago spent the night on the hill. He had everything he needed to spend the night again after his first experience. He told me an XL BBQ cover, 40 hour emergency candle and some emergency blankets and you would stay nice and cozy. I looked at my sack and all i gots is a 12 pack of beer. Needless to say it was an eye opener and i equipped my sled with everything i could possible need for survival. and includes.

garmin inreach
2 way radio
jet boil stove
emergency stove
emergency sleeping bag
emergency blanket
xl bbq cover
fire starter
whistle
parachute rope with lanyards
40 hour candle
tools
haywire -zipties
waterproof windproof lighter
extra gloves and sweater
food
water
hand and foot warmers
First aid kit

What function does the XL BBQ cover serve?

My wife's cousin broke his leg and hip at eagles - his riding group was asking everyone at the cabin if they had any really strong sh*t - I'm gonna try to find some strong sh*t to keep in the Avy bag - his name is Justin - the Ziploc bag will have a sharpy written on it saying "Justin Case"

Is that more reliable than a lighter? I know lighters can get wet but as a non-smoker I don't play with them enough to know their reliability.
Bic lighters dont work when they are wet.

One of those mini torches or bbq lighter is a better option.

Never tried 9v battery and steel wool though. Might be a good option too.

If you have ever tried to keep a fire going on the hill with those fold up saws you will really appreciate this axe. It also doubles as a good size hammer for straitening things out.

Had a mini axe in my tunnel bag until it came out of the sheathe and on the trail down it began to chop a hole in the bag and the tunnel. Lol

Did anyone mention a Snickers bar yet?
At some point, somebody in our group will be handed a Snickers bar (myself included).

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
$2k in cash in case I need a heli ride. Have done this for 20 years now. Wow, that’s a long time. After sled season usually remember in August and then I go to my money pocket and feel joy and spend it!

I also carry a large, thick contractor trash bag on the bottom of my pelican. I don’t know why I carry it but I do! Hahaha

I have been carrying that exact axe for several years. Don't use it a lot, but has come in handy when you need it.
Two things: Get the next size up. the head is the same, but the handle is a few inches longer, and much easier to use. Some have a knife in the handle too.
Second, cover the handle with grip tape. It gets really slippery in snowy gloves and may go for a flight. A lanyard may be an alternative.

I watched Search and Rescue use one of these 6 panel units on a buddy, everyone should carry one of these.
