Can you hire a private helicopter to evacuate you with inreach or do you have to go through the normal search an rescue channels.

Yes you can leave your credit card with any heli company in the area you ride and ask them, they will come and get you, the only reason they won't is they won't move unless they know they are getting paid, so by setting it up ahead of time you can ensure the payment. Or if you don't want to pay, you can wait the longer route through search and rescue. This will work for any sport in different areas.

Just looked at my account. It auto debits on the term date. It just went up a Hundred bucks from what they promised wouldn't. They had said last year that they would change me $500 bucks for the 600 minute plan. Guess I will have to phone in.

You should get the deal I have, it's called "borrow you buddies phone and forget to give it back"

That would be mint if someone could swing that.

Or even negotiate a sledder plan.

$250ish for the year.
No minutes.
$4.00 per min

I think the first thing would be see how many people on here have a sat phone. Maybe someone can start a poll

The last few years that I used my Globalstar Sat phone, I was given a great retention plan- no monthly fee no minutes included -$1 per minute. Then they insisted on $500 per year.

I have my commercial phone provider requesting a bulk sledder's deal from 2 Satellite phone companies. I will post here if we have any luck. I told him to go in to the discussion with 20 users minimum. It never hurts to ask.

Yeah I don't know if they are on the brink of financial ruin or what the deal is but the rates have doubled in the last 5 years.

They usually want you to sign a waiver of liability as well. It’s better to set it up before hand.

With emailing on an InReach you’d be relying on the dispatcher to check their emails to get a response. A phone call hopefully gets you in touch faster.

Must depend on the area.
In Revelstoke a Helicopter is just a phone call away.

You can also text to a cell number for quicker and more direct to the person.

I have an iridium phone and buy minutes through network innovations. The minimum amount of minutes you can purchase is 200,and they expire after 6 months. If you only use the phone for sledding you have to purchase the min 200 and then pay for a reactivation fee which comes in around $400 can. I’ve purchased another 200 in the spring for a
few yrs to avoid the reactivation fee and to accumulate min but I missed the deadline one yr and all min were lost. Not sure if there is a better/cheaper way to do this with the iridium or not. Anyone have a better idea?
So this company can sell packaged minutes for Iridium and Globalstar?

I was looking at the irridium website and I don't see the 200 min for $400.

That's a great package, I would jump at that in a second.

I have a Globalstar (spot) ........

Hey Teth-Air maybe we wanna try these guys to to see if they can do a Snow and Mud rate.

I wonder if you could put multi phones on one business plan and split up the costs?

I’m not too sure if this will work with globalstar or if it’s only for iridium. I will ask them on Monday. They just send a SIM card with the info and purchased minutes each time the plan is reactivated. not sure how globalstar works

Iridium is generally considered more reliable than Globalstar. Globalstar had major issues a few years ago so I had to buy a Iridium. I have phones for both now but because Iridium was twice as expensive last year I drop the plan for my Iridium. If anyone is interested in a older Iridium 9505A with all the accessories I would sell it cheap

Globalstar has made headway in getting to profitability, but it sits in a precarious financial situation and is running out of time. The company has had to raise significant funding over the last few years, and as of last quarter, it had just over $10 million in cash to nearly $600 million in debt. Management said it is exploring additional funding options, which could end up being additional debt or issuing more shares, to keep the boat afloat.

So Globalstar is prettymuch broke. .....
