But what I'm trying to say is, I'd love to buy one pass to ride where ever cause I'm cheap lol

But I know that sicamous, golden e.c.t ( all the big clubs, mabe not revy so much as they get so much from the city of revy) that even if 3 bucks per trail pass sold went to bcsf then the club either mine as well fold now or go independent, cause there would not be enough coming in to stay afloat

Does the bcsf want to kill the clubs going with this plan is the question

Difference is you would get a portion of all trail passes sold through out the province. This would include the money from us Alberta riders who usually make more than one trip to BC, making it worth our while to buy a yearly pass. The day trippers would still pay a trail pass to the club if a yearly was not purchased. It does work out and may even help the smaller club out in the long run.

As an outsider looking in I wonder who would be in charge of fund allocation and disbursement etc... sound like a great way to require a bunch of beauracy that will just eat up money that could go towards actual club needs!!
Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm sure there are a lot of other Berta's that just cough up the fee every weekend but really aren't that aware of what really goes on behind the scenes!

My belief is that the number of day passes sold would be a lot less than what is sold now. As you stated, it would be worth your while to buy one pass for the year and ride everywhere probably saving quite a bit at the same time. This would likely lead to a decrease in provincial revenue therefore not as much being doled back out to the clubs for maintaining the trails.

In Alberta we have the ASA it was formed to give the snowmobilers a larger voice towards the government. If a person purchases an ASA pass this covers all the trails in Alberta. ASA then divides a portion to the clubs. You can also if so desired purchase a local club membership. I know as an Albertan sledding different areas in BC it can become quite costly, a provincial trail pass would be a nice option so long as the clubs are taken care of by this governing body. Seems to work ok in Alberta.
There was funding approved seperate to trail pass to have other things looked at such as land rights and a government contact person right in Victoria I believe.

Exactly, if trail passes go down for each club, then the money to pay for grooming ect goes down

And yes the seasonal passes go up, but if a bunch of the pass money goes to the bcsf, then it's not a good situation

And any club that just has some left over, can't afford to loose any passes money loss

I really do not think the larger clubs like sicamous would fold a provincial plan would have to be implemented in such a way the high usage of that area would receive the necessary revenue to provide the quality services it now does to continue to thrive. As important as snowmobiling is to this area there are rumors of year round employment to help boost the economy.

I see an interesting scenario developing. The BCSF went through turmoil with the formation of ABCSnow. Two separate organizations fighting for government monies and acceptance. Now there will be a group of Independent clubs (I know of two at this time; Moyie and Castlegar) throughout the province. The BCSF trail pass (if it materializes) probably will not be accepted by the Independents. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I was at this meeting. And this is an unfortunate example of where democracy and good ol' Roberts Rules can kick us in the ass. The vote was in favor of producing a second draft of the plan as the first was really not based off of much hard data (and not a lot of data at that, as clubs would not share their statements). We don't even have a clue how much the second draft will cost? Or what the end figure will need to be? BCSF is doing what the majority of their clubs instructed them to do....can't blame them really.

My biggest issue is that the clubs who voted to spend this unknown amount of money on the second draft of the plan will NOT be able to afford to charge the fee that it will take to sustain what we do here in BC. This is my opinion only of course, but I believe the clubs who voted for this second round will be the ones who ultimately vote it down when a Provincial Pass is $300-400.

Imagine if we were able to use this amount of funding and labour on the biggest issues that came out of the AGM and those were government lobbying and an economic impact study showing the TRUE value of recreational snowmobiling to the province.

BCSF is a great group and they need our support and the afternoon of the spring meeting showed that there is a strong desire from the clubs to help the BCSF financially. Unfortunately a majority of their membership instructed them to spend another year (at least) and a very significant amount of money on this idea.

A single person is quite smart.....a large group fuel by passion in the spur of the moment is often not...

Snowmobiling needs the BCSF and the great people behind it. Many of you cannot truly understand the threats that snowmobiling is facing, you just see snow and a throttle on the weekends. I am concerned as to what this stress and conflict this "majority" decision will bring to the future.

I personally already buy 2 passes in bc and sometimes 3, so if I could buy a pass for $300-400 to ride anywhere I'm all for it
but I really don't see how the smaller clubs will get there fair share This control of the bcsf is why the abc was started
years ago when bcsf didn't allocate funds proportionatly and clubs were going broke
I might take some flack for this but I think any rider on groomed trails should have to buy some kind of pass to ride
anywhere in bc that is groomed, but some kind of liability insurance should be included in that pass
and perhaps out of province riders should have to buy a crown land permit for bc to ride anywhere, that would help increase
membership for a larger group count when it comes to government negotiating

The BCSF has never "allocated" funds before now. They've never had funds to allocate. This is the first proposal for a system like that. The clubs have always been self funded with a portion of memberships going to the BCSF to sustain it.

And the way I see it to a certain point, they have gotten greedy

Though I don't agree with what they're doing.....well, more the way they're doing it.....I don't think greed is the motivation. As previously stated, they're following the direction of a majority of their member clubs. The inflexibility of that direction would ruin our small club, so we have no choice but to go independent.

Please remember that this has NOTHING to do with GREED of the BCSF and I wish this type of talk would end. They are the good guys. This was their MEMBERSHIP that voted them to do this! (maybe a knee jerk reaction like voting in the NDP in alberta ) I would bet dollars to pesos that they wish they were not in the middle of this now, but how do you go against the demands of the majority of your membership?

While you may know who voted for BCSF, finding out who voted NDP in Alberta is virtually impossible..... NOBODY is willing to admit it

So at the spring meeting, how many clubs were present at the meeting to vote out of how many clubs in total for the province?
