So I just went on the power tour with Jamie yesterday and had a great day at coqsnow playground!
First off ill say im riding a 2014 xm 163 and have been riding mountians for about 4 years! So when I first got on the 162 3 inch sidewinder I was trying to get use to it because the steering is so different than the doo! For about the first 2 hrs I was cursing the machine under my breath and just thinking how much I love my 2 stroke! But after I got use to it as the day progressed I really started to like this thing! The power was smooth and instant didnt notice any turbo lag! I could hold a line just as easy as my doo! And I was surprised how sharp u could do a hook with it! Really had me excited to be riding it!
The snow was setup in most places but there was some deep snow in the trees to really test this thing!
Some of the Cons!
To do a downhill turn is more challenging on setup snow because of the added weight but once on its side u really dont notice the extra weight!
The seat is comfortable but needs to be smaller
Hey thats really about it!
Put a light weight battery, a pipe and exhaust and u drop probably 30-40 pounds and 200 plus hp !
I did rollover the sled once to get unstuck and did it by myself and was surprised that it really wasent that difficult and started up right away!
in stock form its a awesome sled and I could see a sidewinder in the future for me!

How many miles on those sleds now? How are they holding up for cosmetic damage?

You talking bulkheads?

No. Just wondering how the plastics are holding up. Thinking a few would get smacked up with trees and what not. We had a few close calls our day with trees and such.

About 400 miles or kms not sure what it was in thats when we started ! And they all looked pretty mint to me! Jamie pointed out one sled that had a small crack in side panel from a guy hitting a tree !

Super fun buggy. Riding it 100% stock and it is amazing how solid of a performer it is. Boondocks , carves and plays like any other sled.
PC Thunderstruck Films.
Safe sledding.

Randy, do you know if there will be a power tour in the Fernie area? The two dealers in my area did not even bring any Sidewinders in. It would be great to try one out. Thanks.

We are working on a schedule now. I was certain both of those dealers had as I know one Fernie customer who has one and is ripping it around. Can you please PM me your details and I will pass on to Jamie our tour operator and he will get you a seat.
Thanks

Please contact JC or Dave at Cycle Works foothills. I see you are in Okotoks and they are just planning their demo day.
Cheers and thanks for the 4 stroke interest.

You could PM me some contact info to sir. Was in at my local dealer today and he couldn't really find me any info about "demo" type rides out west.

Was more than willing to let me try one here in Sask if we had some snow.

Thanks Randy. 👍👍

A little off topic, but it appears to me that Yamaha's Sidewinder is 2017 sled of the yea, best iron on snow. While BRP's proclaimed "game changer" G4 is 2017 biggest joke and worst iron on snow.

Randy, any insights on the 18. I'm side lined this season but before i put out the $19k will they offer a longer 174 version or will i have to stretch one?

Feb 27 is launch date for 2018. We all need to wait a bit longer ;)

I see 2017 will be a great season for Yamaha with the success of the Sidewinder. A first season release with no real issues, something that normally doesn't happen with first year releases with "MADE IN US or CANADA". With the help of BRP's famed G4 i see nothing but good things happening for Yamaha sell's for 2018.
Of course there are those loyal diehard's that bleed yellow and you could give them a lemon with go fast sticker's on it and they still would believe it's the best thing since slice bread on snow..LOL.
We hear a lot about BRP engineer's, it almost makes me think they are god's. IMO, Yamaha engineering doesn't get enough credit, the G4 and Sidewinder are proof of that imo.

For guys looking to ride the sidewinder just google "yamaha power tour" and they show where all the stops for the power tour are!
