I remember those showing up a few years ago. They never seemed to take off?

Yeah the H1 looks impressive. There is a H2 as well.

The ones I had seen were the X series. You can pick up those on eBay for a few hundred bucks and available on Amazon as well. I have no idea on the ability to activate them if they are not current.

Worth some investigating.

Their GPS far exceeds anything we have ...just by reading about it. Not sure why anyone would want our sensitive phones that break easily and batteries that will not last all day. By the time you added up the cost of phones from this country 700 bucks and a gps 600 bucks and a uhf vhf radio, these phones are a steal of a deal. And who wants to pack all that crap you have it all in one unit. And I will say it one more time, my 89 dollar acer phone with 26 dollar memory maps on it makes a standard gps look stupid. So if you get one of these phones download mm app and learn how to download an enclosed area and you have something any aviation pilot could only dream of 5 years back.

Yes.. I use google earth out of cell service, I have been using it for 2 years now on my Samsung tablet, first I used google off line maps but it is not so clear. As I have mentioned earlier google earth is a bit glitchy and does not give precise gps position all the time. Memory Maps is exact and you also can have 3d maps just like google earth.

So you have to save the area you want to be able to view to your device? (for google earth)

Memory maps you have to buy correct? From the App store on my phone or???

Thanks again

You do not have to buy Memory Maps 20 or so different maps are free, but some you have to buy. 1:50000 topo, nautical maps, some charts, some delorme maps... hell way to many to mention here. All have 10 day free trials the rest are free. But unlike google earth memory maps you can put the whole province for use offline or all of Canada for that matter. If you want satellite link ups ......so you know where everyone is, that is extra.

Cool, I don't want a Topo map. I want a 3D map like google earth for when I'm on the mountain. That would be the cats ass.

Thanks for the info!

The 3d works on my laptop not to sure about the cell phone or tablet. Satellite links will require cell service. They used to have a cd that had all of bc in crystal clear 3d at maptown calgary. I think they quit carrying it too bad that is what you really would have liked.

Yeah thanks. I'm going to figure out how to use google earth.

works good on my phone when I'm in cell service, has to be a way

for the gps to track your position when out of cell service.

Just have to to save the area some how.

Download google earth app, go into settings set cache size to maximum. Then zoom into the area you are going and let it clear up, that is how clear it will be when your out there. Every new area you have to delete the cache and zoom in again with wifi or cell before you go there again. For some reason when you get a gps lock with memory maps and then switch to google earth you get the exact positions ... not sure why. 20k by 20k is about all your going to get from google earth that is clear.

Memory maps has contour lines that work good for determining go or no go areas, plus shaded darker for to steep to go at least the online maps have this. But learning how to download and area requires some learning .... it is free try it out. Google earth is awesome for finding ways through the trees to get into areas no one goes to.
