The 5 my group ordered should be here any day now. Looking forward to a little more peace of mind while out riding.
Just gotta find a nice spot in the bag now....

Thanks Ray!

Edit- received them today and I am pleasantly surprised at how small they are!

Got the radios last Friday. Thanks Ray.

Played around with them a little at the lake this weekend. Got 6.3 kms out of the short antenna before it got scratchy. The long antenna reached from Mons Lake to Smoky Lake, 10.4 kms. Pretty impressed so far.

Not sure if I should run it in this side pocket or lay it sideways in an upper pocket with the antenna sticking out sideways.

Thanks Louis. The higher up the antenna is the better range and clarity you will get. Also you want it as far away from your body as possible as your body will absorb some of the signal. If your body does block the antenna turn your body so the antenna is facing who ever you want to talk to. Moving around just a few yards can make a difference as well. I can talk to my wife from my house from Pemberton which is 17Km

Are the UV-82HP 8 Watt this year?
The website says 7 Watt and I see the Box says 8 Watt?

I ship out all the radio's with the BC Resource Road channels. Here is a link to see which channels are used where.

I was talking yesterday with someone and asked them if they new how the sub channels on their FSR radio worked. They said they did so asked them to explain it and he thought it was a different frequency between the main channel and the next one up. So that is wrong and it seems to be common misinformation so I attached the vid below. So if you are on 4-20 you cannot here another person on 4 unless they are transmitting what is call CTCSS ( continuous tone coded squelch system) which are "standardized" frequency that are below human audio which is what the subchannels are doing. So when you transmit your voice the CTCSS code (20 in this case)is also added to the carrier frequency (4) and unless your radio can detect that code it won't open up the speaker (squelch). So if you are on 4-00 it is not looking for that code and you can hear someone on 4-20 but they can't hear you. So the point of having subchannels is for when you are shopping with your wife in the mall you can select a sub channel so you can filter out a bunch of teenage girls talking about shoes. In the backcountry it is basically pointless and some radios use a different CTCSS frequency for their sub channels so they might not be compatible with yours. All the main channels are compatible.

Finally got out this past Sunday and tried out the radios for the first time while riding.

Wow! They worked great! The shoulder clip mic is loud and clear. Can understand speech even through the helmet....sending and receiving.

Can't quite hear speech while riding, but you can tell someone is trying to get a hold of you.

I highly suggest putting the radio in a dollarama Tupperware and drill some holes for the antenna and shoulder mic cable. Buddys radio kept changing channels. And get a sock or some pantyhose to put over the mic so you can keep it clipped to the outside of your strap.
Other buddy had his zipped in his strap and the transmit button was pushed on/off all day.

Radio still showed full charge after 5 hours.

Glad I bought em.

You can lock the key pad so it doesn't change channels accidentally.

Yes if you hold down the # key till the radio says lock. Hold it down again and it will say unlock. It does not lock the PTT buttons or the F or M on the radio though. I have have used the tupperware with good success as well from keeping the buttons to get pushed. Last time out I was getting constant static and it turns out the FM radio station got pushed, I didn't have it in a tupperware that day. Pantyhose is a good idea I have been using a small plastic bag but that sounds better.
