I have two yamaha enticer 340 cranks that both have bearing issues. One has a bad PTO bearing and the other has rough feeling mag bearing. I would like to make one good crank from the two on a limited budget but still reliable. I am looking for advise on replacing the bearings without sending the cranks away for rebuild. Does anyone have the proper tools for pulling the bearings and pressing on the new ones? Also would like to be able to measure everything to compare to specs. Near or in Red Deer would be a bonus too.

Both motors I pulled apart had sat for a years in a moist climate. The pto bearing destroyed itself just by rolling the motor over by hand when I was flushing out the case. I really need to stop buying project sleds!

Any advice or info would be appreciated. I have a very nice 86 chassis that needs the motor so it isn't a complete waste of time.

Well almost 2 years gone but I have made some progress finally. I cut the bearing off one crank and ordered the proper bearing from Yamaha. Was able to use the press at work to install the new bearing. Cleaned everything up and installed new outer crank seals and sealed cases again. First for me doing bottom end motor. Fingers crossed that it stays together. Have to get new rings now so I can put the top end back on.

Did you check the crank for run out prior to reinstalling? If its out it could very quickly undo all your hard work.

No I didn't. I picked the best crank out of the 3 I have and changed the bad bearing. The motor wasn't ran with the bad bearing so I am hoping it is good. I will track down a runout indicator and check it at each end before I proceed any further. I have spent way more time trying to figure out how to do this with the tools I have access to than time pulling wrenches. Better use of my time than sitting watching TV anyway. I am keeping this sled for the kids to rip around on at the farm so if it lets go I guess I will start over with another crank and case.

The best way is to check with it outside the cases, but if it is really out you should still see it at each end installed in the cases.

I bought a cheap dial indicator and magnetic base at princess auto for about $50 when I did mine. Not machine shop accurate but should let you know if its good or not. I just quickly made up a steel plate and bolted it to the cases to mount the indicator to.

I just rebuilt 2 1980 SRX engines. I had 3 cranks and all 3 were out. The worst was 10 thou then 8 and 6. I had Motts in Edmonton go through them and he figured at least 2 came that way from the factory As there was no way to true either. I did have some chatter on the outer races and on cases. Best way to see visually is does your cases and bearings have chatter marks. If not, bet yours are good.

Thanks or the info. There was some scuffing on the cases. Not sure about the bearing races. Been too long since I cut the bearing off to remember. I will pick up a cheap dial gauge next week when everything is open regular hours again. May have to split it open again.

Make sure you use 3 bond to seal the cases. As for a cheap dial indicator you may want something that is fairly accurate as you are dealing with a few thou.

Yes go see mots, they are rebuilding a crank for a sea doo as I don't want it to blow in a day, worth the cost.

Well here is an update on the enticer crank situation. I now have a fourth motor in pieces, after my Daughter rode her 300 enticer for a day, by the way this was a motor I hadn't touched yet until last Friday. It was bogging and stalled and wouldn't start again until it cooled off. The clutch was also buggered so I hauled it back to Red Deer to check it out. Now down to one running 340 motor. Found some surprises when I pulled the clutch off. Crank seals were leaking as well as the case halves, no too surprising given the age of the machine. Decided to check the runout with the cheap dial indicator I bought and holly sheet 9 thou of runout on the clutch side. Not sure how that thing didn't explode completely. Likely the only thing that kept it together was the kids putting around on it. The body looks like it was used in a crash up derby from previous owners so I am guessing the clutch took a good hit at some point. Next surprise was the 300 motor is a 340. I never even looked at the cylinder markings before I tore it apart. So I took everyone's advice a headed for Mots this morning with 4 cranks. I had split that other motor apart again since I was going to Mots And wanted to get it checked too.
Have to say well worth the drive even when the 2 inches of snow we had in Red Deer overnight turned into a full out blizzard in Edmonton today. Luck buggers must of had at least 6 inches. I was 4 digging the rental Escape we have in the residential areas after fat fingering the address in the gps. (Normally I would rather walk over driving a Ford but I have to say that little ecoboost hauls the mail or enticer cranks fairly well). Anyway back on topic. The Guys at Mots are great! I walked in the door at noon and explained my situation they took the one crank into the back that I had changed the bearing on and checked it quick. Came back up front and said he needed a half hour to straighten it and I could take it back home again. Can't beat that for service anywhere I have been lately anyway. By the time I went and grabbed a quick lunch and box of Doughnuts to leave for them the crank was back on the counter. I left the other 3 cranks there so they can combine the good parts and make one more good crank. Not sure what it will cost in the end but I am more than tired of wrenching on Yamaha motors so once they go back together they better run for a few years. I am going to put the first running motor into the mint 85 chassis I have and my kids better not run it into anything harder than a snow drift.

Made some progress today. Only 2 years but it runs again. I will call this one Rachel. Since she supplied the time to work on it and Visa sponsored the parts.

Ready for a tuning ride now. Made a few laps in the parking lot of work.

Can't on that one I only own the motor for now. This one would make a better Enticer Larry video.

I sent it by accident and thought I collapsed my spine a couple years ago.
