Thinking about getting into a used turbo Yamaha seems it's more economical to buy someone else's build. What should a guy look for and stay away from. Thanks

Which model are you looking at? I have a viper and I absolutely love it. How much are you willing to spend?

Viper is best handling, look for a nytro with forward a-arms on it and if you want all out power u can pick up an apex for cheap but they are hard to ride in tighter spots. Look for one with an aftermarket skid like racers edge or m-10 etc... Will the keep the front end down on these big power machines. Stay away from 2016 new viper as I've talk to a few dealers and they changed the internals on the motors and can't hold the boost. Why Yamaha would ever do this I don't understand, hoping they rectifie problem right away as they are very reliable. Go with mcx turbo kit or boost it box as there the best running IMO.

Was looking at either a nytro or apex as I only want to spend between 7-8 on it

I would look for a nytro with 3+ forward front a-arms, mcx turbo with a coupled rear suspension, Cr tunnel. Apex are really tough to boondock with, nytro are a lot easier compared to apex. If you haven't tried one I'd try to try one out before buying if possible to make sure you like them. They are not for everyone as they are harder to boondock with in the trees compared to 2 strokes. Good luck with your purchase as there are lots of cheap nytros out there that are perfectly good sleds.

I agree, go with the Nytro.
MCX = has a lot of great, knowledgable dealer support and there are a lot of people running them.

The whole deal with a boosted yamaha is just that, the engine and turbo set up and incredible reliability. The sled itself is not so hot compared to what is out there now. Any aftermarket parts you find on one is a bonus to you.

The first ones 08-09 had too deep of a tunnel. The tracks yamaha has used until the recent years have been crap (maverick), yamaha mnt. Skis are also not the greatest in all snow conditions. Try to find one with at least these items upgraded and you will be happy.

Had an Apex for a couple years and been on a nytro since 08. I agree with all said above coupling skid M10 or Racers edge MCxpress is top kit anything with a Boost it system now should run well, Powderlites kits in the past were the worst I actully believe boost it is here because of how bad other kits ran. The only headache on these sleds is exhaust leaks. A small leak and the sled will run like garbage sound crackly and bogged down. Really have to load them up on test rides if possible to notice it. I would also throw a new chain on it. After that make sure you have decent amount of Octane for the boost your running and gas and go.

Nytro with Impulse turbo ??
Anyone running this set up?
Being doing some research and front mount on Apex or Nytro seem to be the ones of choice.
Quicker response .

Impulse was also a good kit, front mount alpines were known to get really hot, I actually seen one catch on fire. They are pretty good at putting heat shields on now and protecting wires ect. They also spool faster no like you said.

Ended up buying 09 nytro set up like this

- Zbros 3" forward front end with Exit shocks
- MCX Turbo 270hp
- Forward mount steering
- CR Tunnel
- Kmod skid with Raptor shocks
- 162" with 2.5" Camo extreme track
- Mountain mod seat with rear storage.

Should be fun to learn how these handle in the snow

Looks like you got all the good parts the nytro needs. Summer project, should have a look to see if its got copper donuts installed in the exhaust system. Does the tunnel have a serial number? I just went thru this with my nytro, aftermarket tunnel. So the serial number is gone, then you have no way to prove its yours, etc. Got a replacement "VIN" from the gov't now. Since the big crack down in BC, you might get checked or might have no issues. Just passing on info I know first hand about is all.

I bought an impulse nytro a few years ago and hated it. After lots of mods its a nice sled to drive now. Biggest thing I did was drop my fuel tank 4" which really lowered the center of gravity, and put skinz boards on. Im not sure if I like the plus forward a arms. I have skinz on and it pulls over easy, but likes to go straight and not turn like most sleds do on a down hill side hill. Would like to try cr 37" arms. image.jpg

There is a guy on snowest, Thistledoo, a simple spring for your blow off valve will make a world of difference in spool up when on and off throttle. Cheap mod that works.

Thistledoo is on this site as well. Also ask him about the copper donuts for exhaust.
