FXR gear

Seen a lot of this gear last week in Revy. Looks good, but does it work? I wear Klim, and it works good, but tore my coat last week so need a new one. I want something different this time.
What are the real world reviews?

I have a FXR jacket and I like it, wind proof, fairly breathable, keeps me warm and dry. From what I understand KLIM is definitely better but I am happy with mine. I've ridden down to -25c with it, and I stay warm in it cruising the trails at 50+km/hr, any little bit of exposed skin not so much though.

I always thought FXR were to heavy of an outfit. Go to FFUN and get yourself the Motorfist Alpha suit. you can get 20% off.

Always had fxr and love it. Have pants that are 7-8 yrs old and not a knick or broken button or flaw. Never was a klim guy cuz i feel they overpriced. Always manged to find fxr gear on sale.

I have the onesie. Love it. Super thick, durable, keeps me warm, lots of vents. Ill buy another one on a sale opportunity.

How much are they when on sale?

I must have had a crappy production then. I had a pair of FXR pants and after less than a year of use they were like a sponge. I would be soaking wet by mid day anytime there was any decent powder. I switched to KLIM and have been dry and happy ever since.

I was always a Klim guy, but every year I have to send the pants back as they leak in the seat. They are a bit over priced but the warranty was always good.
I am looking for the shell, as I over heat once I get moving

I bought the Tactic Air for this reason. Love it. Enough vents I can still wear it at 0, yet can layer up for when it's -20 something going up the trail (like last weekend). Super light and flexible so you don't have to get one that hangs off of you to be able to move. I will buy another one when I kill this one.

When buying FXR gear just make sure u check the waterproof rating, there are many different ones!

I have 7 pairs of Togowotee bibs on the same warranty through the last 6-7 years. Yes the seat leaks, but that is minor inconvenience to me. I know how the process works and can have a new pair in less than a week. Awesome warranty from Klim.

I recently bought an FXR monosuit, I originally loved the product, it kept me warm and dry and was also breathable. I wore this mono suit for 3 riding days and it's already got rips on both knees from regular riding. I took it back to hopefully get warranty because you'd think a suit that you wear only three times should hold up alittle bit longer than that but apparently FXR doesn't think so. FXR said that it is just regular wear and tear. I understand that wear and tear will happen except you'd think it would atleast last a season, maybe slowly start getting worn out or something not just three days... if a suit only lasts three days why would anyone want to buy FXR? I guess your supposed to get a new one for every trip or something? So to sum this up if your gonna be actually riding and not just sitting around don't buy an FXR monosuit, they have extremely weak knees and when you rip them they will not fix them for you.

I seen the 20% discount and free gloves. In the fine print it states for only certain models. Which models are excluded?

I've been wearing FXR gear for 4 years and have never had a problem with it. Even hit a guide wire on elbow with one coat and not a mark in coat.

Pants stay dry and have enough venting if a warm day, same with coats. Also like their gloves.

I am wearing FXR gear this year as Klim royally ticked me off this past year with their Stealth Gear. I have work Klim products since I got into mountain riding and have several different pant/jacket combos over the years. I bought into their Stealth gear as soon as it came out as it was supposed to b their ultimate gear for riding. It didn't hold up well even through the first year. My 5 year old Klim bibs looked better than the Stealth gear did. I then had to fight with them for several months and dealt with 3 different people at Klim to get them to replace the bibs and at the end of the day they still denied there was anything wrong with their product. Oddly enough they changed the material on this years model to a more durable material. Anyhow...the brand new bibs will sit in the closest still in their packaging for now. I think their warranty department just hopes people give up.

After riding with several riders last winter who were wearing FXR's mountain series I opted to try some this year. Most of their gear I found heavy and over insulated ad thats fine if you like insulate gear but I do not. I found one version of pant and a light shell that I have worn several times this winter and so far I am impressed. The biggest thing I also found is some of the material on some products felt very thin and likely not able to withstand much abuse. The Mtn series pants I have feel more robust than most of Klim products.

So I will no longer pay $1000+ for Klim products. Why spend that much when I can spend less than half of that and it lasts the same amount of time. Plus I can always have the newest color combos with the cheaper gear. But time will tell over this season if I continue to like the FXR. Either way the only way I will buy gear in the future is buy last season models.

I would go check it out vs ordering online as well.

About 8 years ago a buddy and his friend sunk their sleds in a river at -30. He called me to come pick him up and help recover the 2 sleds. He was wearing FXR gear and was totally dry and warm, after having to swim to the edge of the ice. Since then I bought FXR. Really happy with it. Was he wearing a wet suit over the top of the fxr gear? I think your friend may have had something to drink and possibly exaggerated the swimming part.

One of my friends bought fxr gear a couple years ago, before we went out on a five day trip. The crotch ripped out on the first day (Knee to knee) and by the fourth day the gloves where completely shredded. The jacket held up ok (for the trip) except it rained one day and he was soaked.
