have to take the complete sled into a skidoo dealer. martin motorsports edmonton is one. not sure what dealer is closest to you.

BUT you have to have proof of ownership of the sled. they will program you a new key for about 100 bucks i think.

This post is like a red flag. I interpret it as " I have a hot sled and cannot getting it going. Can anybody help!! How do I bypass the ignition which is intended to prevent losers like me from having a HOT sled!!!"

If I am wrong I appologize in advance.

If you left it in a dugout for a week then the dess key is the least of your worries. Hope you shut er down before she went under and hope you have insurance because these deals usually aren't cheap. Just sayin'.......

I believe you are straight up with your story. If you were lying the dealer would end up being where you would get caught as most dealers will ask for proof of ID before doing the new key. I think Overbore is offering an apology but probably was abit preemptive on his assertion that the sled was stolen. If a Doo dealer charges you a hun to program a key then he is the crook. The key is around $40 and it takes 10 minutes to do the job if everthing goes smoothly. Good luck!:)

Pls understand that sledders like to help sledders, and (not that I think this is the case) but if indeed this sled was stolen and someone is trying to hotwire it, you have to understand his apprehension. If it was my sled that someone had ridden away with, I'm glad that other sledders are so vigilante in how much they care that it might be stolen.

There is no way to hotwire it, go get a new DESS key, in the meantime, flip it over, pull the plugs and try and get as much water out of the engine as possible, put some oil down the cylinders and pull the exhaust off or put a hairdryer/heat gun up the y-pipe and get some hot air into the motor and try and get as much of the water out as possible. Drain the chaincase oil as well.

yes but 100 bucks is the flat rate, if you can find a dealer to do it cheaper , without having an "in" so to speak at said dealer please share. as i dont think you will find one. have to remember tech has to get work order, get parts, perform work, clean workspace, fillout repair procedure on sauid work order, addmin has to process work order, then you pay your bill, master card/visa/debit usually gets their cut then the dealer gets the few pennies left over.
not saying 100 bucks is justifiable in this case but sayin there is alot tmore to it than meets the eye. dealers/ shops charging the rates they do for work is very understandable when you lok at it from the other side of the coin so to speak, everybodys wages and utilitie bills keep goin up so they have to get teh money from somewhere.
i worked at a dealer about 5 yrs ago out of the 100phr shop rate at the end of the day after admin/parts peeps/utilities/techs are all paid there isnt much left out of that hundy per hour.

If you were to pull up to my dealer (Mr. R's in Lethbridge) with the sled in the back of your truck they would get you to back it up into their shop and program it for you right there. No shop space to clean, no charge by the tech for doing a workorder as that is the service writers job and he is paid to either sit around or work by the hour, no difference. The receptionist would take payment. She is also on an hourly wage so no built in charge to the workorder. No shop supplies,no blah, blah, blah like some dealers. I guess what I'm saying is not every dealer operates the same and gouges you for the smallest of things. Just saying.....:)

so there is no "built in charge" for the service writer, and reception, and accounting, etc. so where does this money come from? the majic money tree? just sayin.

somebody is paying their wage. it all takes away from the bottom line doing freebie jobs. i am not saying i agree with it, but thats the way it is. i believe in the rub my back i rub yours policy but that really is becoming a thing of the past with operating expenses going up every day the money to pay them has to come from somewhere.
but lets try to keep at least on thread on here, besides tail gate chat, on topic. :d
