Anyone been out on the #3 today?
Going to head to Fernie for a couple of sledding days and was going to leave this afternoon.
Roads don't look to good from the webcams...

Thanks medler. I heard there was some strong winds up north of you this morning as well. A little blast of winter coming...?

oneweewilly thanks for your input too. I drive this route about 30x a year but it can be a surprise in certain places. Road conditions aren't updated very frequently and the road can be closed from the border to Sparwood and from Fernie to Elko without warning. Usually avalanche, black ice or whiteout causes the closures. Info from people in the area is always good.

Drove from My dad's place in Black Diamond to my place in fernie today. Left at 11:30 and arrived in fernie @ 2:45. Roads were bone dry until I got to chain lakes. From the north end of chain lake ( highway 22) to Old Man river there was a pretty good layer of snow/ice on the road. Some fairly strong wind gust. From Old Man River to Coleman was a mix of heavy slush and wet roads. Mainly heavy packed slush. Through the pass was mainly wet slush with a little bit of plain wet roads. Once through Sparwood the roads were just wet. if the tremps drop tonight everything will be like a sheet of ice. Drive safe and take your time. FILL UP YOUR WASHER FLUID and carry a spare jug. I almost went through a whole tank.
