Trail Widths

Does anyone know where I can find or if such a thing exists, a document that defines the minimum and maximum widths that a snowmobile trail can be?
I ask because the Calgary Snowmobile Club is trying to get into grooming the trails at Cataract Creek. The trails have been neglected ever since the government pulled their groomer out of that area.
The Club has been doing trail maintenance but no grooming has been done for a few years. We would like to make that area nice again.
Let me know your thoughts.

contact the ASA office, and see if they have anything. probably varies based upon what the club has for grooming equipment.

As Tyler notes go to the A.S.A.. They have a trail manual that also stipulates type and location of signage required on A.S.A. designated trails.

Government together with the trail users of the province put together a trail manual. Different levels of trail =different widths allowed. Your club can get a copy from the ASA easy

average drag with is 10 but you can customize to what you want. we have three drags and they are 10 and 12 feet but we groom to as wide as 18 feet, two passes. the wider the better for traffic use, spreads the woops out.

For primitive trails: 3.5m wide by 3m high
Semi Developed: 5m wide x 5m high
Developed: 5m wide x 5m wide.

This is the standard sizes that the ASA uses as well as the Federal and I do believe International follows. Primitive being never grooming. Semi is grooming a couple times a year and Developed is grooming all the time (Revy, Vale, Kakwa etc)

Here is a PDF copy of what we received when we started our trails in Peace River. Also explains the different trails. There is a specific section for sleds.
