I've added heavier fork springs to my Xplor48 forks, ordered them from a very well known suspension dealer after giving them all my bike/rider specs and riding style. Seems better than stock but I can still bottom out the forks periodically. I'm told but several people since I'm only a 145 pound rider I wouldn't need to send the forks away and change the valving, just use 5wt fork oil to slow it down and add a little extra oil to keep the forks from bottoming out. Anyone tried this?

You are on the right track for a cheap fix. I re-sprung the 4CS in my bike to the heaviest they can go without spring bind and swapped out oil to 15wt to slow everything down a bunch. Oil is super cheap and an easy thing to try. If your still having issues there's some DIY Trio build options out there for 1/3 of the price on new.

In case anyone else is following this and thinking of trying the same.

-The service manual calls for 610ml of oil per fork. I upped it to 650ml and switched from 4 WT to 5 WT oil. The extra oil seems to make a small difference, and the forks are a little harder to bottom out. I will probably try going up to 700 ml at some point soon.
-As for switching from 4WT to 5WT oil I dont see a lot of difference in the dampening. It does seem to be a bit slower, but hard to notice though, considering trying 10WT oil next.
-The heavier fork springs I am running are .58 which handle really well and don’t wash out too bad on hard corners. They are probably perfect for the mountains for my weight of 145 pounds. But an afternoon of ditch banging around home and jumping approaches, leaves me wanting to up the spring rate again to probably something like .61 is my guess.

Hope this helps someone else. My end goal is to not have to spend $1000 plus on a trio setup. The forks have to be serviced anyway so a guy may as well change out the springs while he’s in there.

If I only rode in the mountains I would be happy with this setup. The spring rate is close perfect as far as handling go’s.
But as far as sending it off of an approach or beaver dam, it’s just not enough. I don’t want to up my spring rate, so I’m probly going to have to try an Airpro kit or a Trio shock.:(
