I found a very nice 01 700 high mark with 2800 k on it for sale. I am not a Doo guy, as in, I don’t know anything about these sleds and need to know if these were a decent sled back in the day. I am looking at it for my 16 year old daughter and wife to ride at low elevations and in the mountains a couple times a year.
The sled has a completely rebuilt engine. The oil pump quit and was caught, but it now has a new crank and all new top end.
Questions I have
1–was there any inherent problems with this gen of 700.
2–being a summit does it have a narrower / adjustable front ski stance.
3– have heard from some that it
Is real heavy and hard to handle. Is it too much for the wife or daughter to work with. They both can ride
4– does it have the HACC system. I don’t really want to jet
5– are the RAVE valves a problem or is there any maintenance to them
6–do the clutch weights have to be changed for the mountains or does it have clickers
5–should it have a 2 inch track or
1 1/2

Any and all help
Here is appreciated. Trying to get informed before I actually go look at it
Cheers !

Well its not going to handle like a G4, lol but it was the best mountain sled around (IMO) back in the day.

Don't need to jet it, 2 inch track, has clickers on clutch, motor is reliable, don't have to mess with the RAVE's at all.

They are good sled's.

Crank failures, PTO bearing. They had a reputation for it.
2–being a summit does it have a narrower / adjustable front ski stance.
The OEM ski's were of an offset design and were known for darting.
3– have heard from some that it

Yes they can ride it, weight was no worst or better then any other of the time. Swapping out the ski's to a pilot ski, helps alot.
4– does it have the HACC system. I don’t really want to jet
No jetting needed.
5– are the RAVE valves a problem or is there any maintenance to them
They needed to be kept clean or they would stick, known to gum up, especially with cheapo oils.
6–do the clutch weights have to be changed for the mountains or does it have clickers
Has TRA clutch, so has clicker's.
5–should it have a 2 inch track or
1 1/2
They came with both depending on the length. The 2" was on the 136,144 and the 1 1/2" was on the 151.
Actually the 151 was a combined track with the outer lugs at 2" and the center rows at 1 1/2".

The 700 was a poor engine imo, known for PTO crank failures, in general the sled felt and rode heavy mostly because of poor geometry and suspension design even though they were not any heavier then its competition.
The ski's really suck and a must change or the rider won't like riding it.
The clutch's on these units are typical Rotax BRP design, sucked then as they suck today. No problem cooking anything on them.

BTW i had 2 of them in 2000 and 2001, it was a perk for working for BRP at the time. My first Ski-doo's, EVER.

But you liked the nytro....so you're suspect.I will concede that some of what you say is true but i have witnessed lots of high mile 700. Keep in mind this is for his daughter and partially a flatland sled. Not every machine has to fit your "four stroke or nothing mould".

Yeah I had 8000kms on my 700 when I sold it...
Mostly easy miles though lmao

I don't remember it being a "combination track" just a 2 inch 151. But if Lund say so. ..

And also had an 800/700 polaris of the same vintage and the doo was twice the sled (as far as reliability and rideability) cats of that vintage were total garbage imo not even worth owning and yamaha were tanks just like they are today.

Neighbour had one. When he bought it the odometer said 12000km and had stopped working for a few years. He drove that sled like he stole it every day. No warm up just wide open. Never did die.

LOL, guys
i gave him the real skinny on the sled, only two real issues and thats the crank to watch for and ski's need changing other wise there was nothing special about it.
Oh yes it felt heavy and planted when you rode it but the ski's help a lot.

lilduke, the combo track i think was only in 2000 on the 151, it may not be the case in 2001.

OH BTW, Nytro's did not exist in 2001 and i was riding the newest and greatest from Ski-doo.

Longevity of the motor was nothing special compared to anything else out there, we did many warranties claims at BRP on the 700 motors. Mostly crank related.
The crank had 2 PTO bearing's, one was lubed by the case oil while the other was lubed by grease (Isoflex grease) The PTO bearing that was lubed in grease was known to fail as it would go dry, especially if the seal got damaged from a belt cord. So something to check, you do not want to see grease behind the primary and there is a nipple at the back side of the engine case, (carb side) at the clutch corner. It suppose to have a yellow cap on it, many fell off and then the grease would slowly come out. Check make sure its on there.

So i could i could blow colored roses in the air on this sled, this way the poster would know what to look for.....right.

The mountain max was a tank too haha still see lots of the zx's around and not many of the others of that vintage.
Could be just because they sold more though. I did take one motor out do too the iso flex, but was covered on warranty and no problems after that.

I think they were the best sled of there time by far, but it was also my favorite sled of all time so a bit biased I guess. I ran Simons flex skis on mine and liked those. Sleds have came along ways in 20 years though forsure.

Ok I'll be that guy. Unless it's near free you can probably get a Rev or M7 for about the same price and have a much better sled.

I'd pay up to 1000$ for a 700 zx in good shape.

Buddy got one for free in revelstoke, so cant beat that price.
Not a big fan of the rev personally but if you can get a 2007 for cheap enough(1000$ tops) sure. Could always say **** it and just get a 2019 850 too.....

I'm with Brandon

Get a Rev over a zx chassis sit down sled

A m7 doesn't have reverse so that is a big deal too

You must like your bars really high. Try bending your knees a bit when you ride haha
Both my xm's are stock height, don't need the leverage

The Xp and prior ya did to get that tank over lol

Well lots
Of
Good info here. A sealed
Main crank bearing ???????? Really that’s Scary to me
He wants $2500.00. Based on everything here sounds like it’s too much for this age/ style sled. And yes. A few more bucks gets a guy into reverse with better skis rider forward. etc etc

Thanks guys. Looks like I will pass and start looking for something newer
Cheers

Not trying to give you a riding lesson here, but leaning a sled over is all in the throttle. My Feeeride has a wide front end and the front springs are cock stiff, If I was relying on the bars to carve they'd break off.

And the ZX carves better than an XP IMO Any who, maybe we can get out for a rip one these years

On a another note; I love old school sled videos, couldn't find the clip of Rob Alford on the ZX chassis I wanted but this intro is pretty wicked.

Yeah 2500$ is too much. Probably get a Polaris Pro for 3g.
