You don't need a code reader to read the codes. I found this on Dootalk:

Check etec faults.

to read any active fault codes
press and hold MODE button and
simultaneously depress the HY LOW beam switch
repeatedly several times
if you have more then one code use SET or MODE to scroll
to exit the system press and hold MODE button

I have also attached a list of fault codes that you can browse thru. Hope this helps.

Ever use it?

from my understanding budds is a 250k price tag on it and most dealers rent them from brp. But once yea say it I don't know if that is true.
Budds cost about 4000g for the program +updates,, 900$ for the interface/laptop hook up. I'm pretty sure I could get one at home for that price too(from what I hear). Never tried this aftermarket program on a sled yet but might get it, to try it out. They have a demo online though,, looks like it does everything I need It too.

They are not $250k. You buy them from BRP and they buy it back when you sell your business. They won't let you keep it.

There is an after market program that does everything BUDS does cost around 500$ BRP (SeaDoo & SkiDoo) - CANDooPro - SeaDoo, SkiDoo, and Yamaha Diagnostic Tool

Bought one last year. Was using it to set the rave valve limits and somehow it reflashed the ecu to not see the input from the pipe sensor. I ended up getting the ecu replaced as it was the middle of winter and I couldn't wait for the programmer in Florida to sort the problem out (if he even could). I think it would work well for just pulling codes but the other functions have me more than a little gun shy.

On a side note I've got mine for sale if anyone wants to buy it!:what:

I have the candoo as well, works good for changing timing, resetting tps and key swaps on the 800r motor, as for etec, I have not needed it much, but will this year with timing and rave valve resetting, I had found it worked ok, but can not add new ECM solfware upgrades from brp

I called down their today for maintence support renewel, talked with Jeff, he had no recollection of your issue and offer warranty for problems his software has done

Said etec support is up to date and no new changes in last eight months, one can reset rave values, change engine timing and read and reset codes, reprogram keys, and reset tps

so its defiantly does not offer everything buds offers, but gives us a some of the most important changes we need to do

He has a selective memory then. I was emailing with a developer named Matthew in late March last year. We never did get to the bottom of what caused the problem but long story short everything was fine until I went to set the rave valve limits with the CanDoo after that there was no way to get the pipe sensor low voltage code to clear. I took it back a dealer and tried reflashing with BUDS but the only remedy was to change the ECU to another one. Take that how ever you want all I know is that I'm not really interested in cooking another ECU.

Lilduke- I'll sell you my kit for $350. Paid $431 for it.
