 I did a search and came up with nothing but a lot of various reading about the etec's.

What is everyone using for oil in their etec?

I realize all the presumed warranty issues, the hype, etc., but are the real warriors, the guys and gals that ride lots using for oil?

Thanks, fs

We bought 5 gallons of bulk synthetic at Bow Cycles open house. A pretty good deal, I wish they offered it more often. That should get me through half the season. I didn't have any more empty jugs at home or I would have bought more. I only run the full. After tearing down a few motors you can see how well it coats everything.

Everyone knows that BRP is saying full synthetic now, there are good reasons to run full syn, and they have their reasons to recommend the Full, but I am sure you could run the blend, or even the mineral. I don't want to get into the arguements that synthetic doesn't penetrate metal like mineral oil does, or that Shell is just as good, as I am sure it is. There are lots of people who come up with reasons to run something else, but price seems to be the only reason to not run BRP's Yellow Jug.

Over the season last year I think I worked out I spent $100 more on synthetic than blended. Its not much more. Maybe I am not a real warrior?

I will be running the brp full synthetic too. There is no reason to run anything else. They say to run it. You are not saving any cash going with anything else that is a synthetic.

You could try the mineral to start, but it already has Full Syn coming in it.

Also the arguments on breaking it in with mineral vs synthetic have to be weighed differently now. The fuel no longer carries the oil to the motor. The fuel is being injected to the top of the piston as is the oil to the block. Also its not like we are breaking in rings on iron blocks either. The nickasil is already very smooth. There are engine builders who claim rings seat better with conventional oils. Have they tested this on new generation motors? Hey prove me wrong.

The real question is, what does Maxwell run? :)

Hey someone had to say it!

I got a "what's news" email on my Boss web account that says to only run the full synth in the e-tec and to 100% recommend it to my customers during their walkthrough on their new baby, and that the sticker that is on the oil tank is incorrect.
