you are correct. motor wont burn down if the cable breaks. its just a pain in the butt to replace.

Agreed!wow it is one challenging job to replace! My 08 was like new at the pump but frayed at the thumb flipper. I am currently doing the job in stages as it is the hardest thing I have ever had to work on. I have the new cable on the pump leaver just need to tighten it and put the c clip on. Pulling the primary and removing the torque stops so I could lift the motor higher may have helped. I think I may have kept this sled one year to long!I am 4 hours into the job. To be honest though two of those hours are trying to retrieve tools lost under the engine!

i replace my cable on my '09. It was frayed at the oil pump end and kinked at the thumb control. Not an easy job.

If you do the gearing change noted below with both upper and lower sprocket swaps will your speedo still be correct. If not can it be adjusted or do you just have to be aware of a percentage of error?

Thanks,

Summit® Drive Belts
Furthermore, dealers are reporting that gearing changes are helpful on some models. It is important to know that the 146 inch models are geared rather high as we intended them to be a long
track Renegade® of sorts. If top speed is more desirable than deep snow or extreme climbing performance your customers may prefer to leave the gearing alone, but if they are being used more
extremely you may gear them down by using a 21 tooth top sprocket and a 102 link chain. The 154 inch model being used in extreme conditions may benefit from a 19 tooth top sprocket and a 102 link
chain, but you will loose top speed on flat meadows. The 163 inch model already uses a 49 tooth bottom sprocket so it is geared lower and most likely will not need change.
If gearing changes are required to meet the customers expectations you may file a normal warranty claim for a top sprocket and chain (the claim will pay the parts and you may keep the removed parts in exchange for the labor time or you will be required to return the removed parts claimed).

Speedo still reads the same and only changes when you change out drivers to some other size. Hope this helps.

I've got a 12' summit xp with an electric start and no manual pull installed. Towards the end of last season I was finding myself having to fiddle with the key to get the sled to start. It progressively became worse as time went on. When it came time to the maintenance involved in putting it away for summer, I went to go start it so I could fog the engine. Of course I couldn't get it to start and I checked the battery which was fine. I ended up starting it manually with the provided cord and clip found within the tool pouch. It fired right up and while it was running I figured I would try to see if the start button when pushed would engage reverse. When I pushed it, nothing happened. At first I was thinking I had a faulty key that was going bad, however when I couldn't get the sled to go into reverse makes me think the start switch is the issue. I wanted to know if any of you have had similar issues and what you did to fix them. Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Is it a X with the red start/RER button or a SP with the grey button on the hi/low switch?

Sounds like you just need to first check the connection from that to the plug or the contact inside the switch has worn out or broken.

It's a summit XP with neither of those setups you've described. It is a yellowish button that is zip tied to my handle bars and orientated right next to hi/lo beams. I bought the sled off an older gentlemen and he had the manual pull taken out for whatever reason and an electric start installed. Not sure if that helps you or not. If not I can try and snap a photo of it so you get a better idea. I've even tried searching for a photo of it on the net but can't find one....

That sounds like a 07 xrs rer-start switch button

Not sure if the xp xrs did the same
