Indexing etc 800 plugs

Are there shims available if the plug doesn’t line up?
I've have not seen them before, the threads on the NGK plug are supposed to be cut so that when you reach the correct torque they are within in spec. Perhaps you got a bad plug?

I think those are just the BRP plugs from NGK. If you buy them from NAPA or somewhere else they don't. I think you can get shims though..

I’ve seen the shims before in V8 building, we did get the plugs at alpine country so they’re Napa.

I have bought multiple sets of NGK plugs from Napa and haven't had issues with proper indexing. Don't know about shims though. For the first install of the plugs I always use a torque wrench to make sure the washer is compressed at the correct torque spec and it always has indexed properly for me.

For what’s its worth I did my Etec plugs a couple days ago, was pissed at first as figured based on finger tight there was no way they would end up in right spot but sure enough after torquing they ended up good. From the dealer but looked like plain old ngk box. Pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve ever torqued a spark plug lol

Roughly yes, that's the theory and how they were engineered. I still mark all my etec plugs 180° from the ground electrode (opposite side) so that I can see the mark facing the injector to know that they are indexed within spec.

And there is 180° of spec, basically make sure the grounding electrode isnt facing the injector and you likely wont have issues.

BRP and their dealers sure made it sound like indexing the plugs was a complicated procedure but it really isnt.

So if you drive a skujunk you need to carry a torque wrench if you need to change a plug on the hill
I havent put a torque wrench on one in 3-4 years, and changed out at least 10 plugs.
Never had an issue

Since you you never really got a answer here...

yes you you can get shims, moroso and a couple other companies sell them. There 15, 30, and 45 thou in a package. The OD on the shins is generally too big by about 10 thou. You will need to file em down a bit. With that said you DO NoT use the crush washer on the NgK plug. The ones in the package are copper and will seat. If your stuck in between shins, use a hammer to squish it down to the correct size.

In all my testing I will tell you this. Burry that sparkplug as far into the cylinder head as you can. Anything past 45 thou will be a serious loss in performance, the flame front when it sparks is horrible. Further to that you will loose compression with a thicker or stacked shins.

in addition to the above testing, indexing doesn’t make a dam difference in performance, ONLY sparkplug life. Indexing them means there more self cleaning and last longer.

BKR7EIX for mountain riding (run these for 7000km, new every year)
BKR8EIX for low elevation or turbo mountain riding (current plug running for 3000km)

PS if someone tells you skidoo plugs have special EMI/RFI frequency and it will fry your ECM this is a negative. NGK sets them all the same.

there is that much difference between a 7 and 8 plug that they have to be changed we used to change plugs years ago for temp only

Thanks for the info. What’s considered low elevation as far as these go? Below 3000’?
