Well stripped down the top end off an old 800 we use for a spare or a loaner machine and found a ring gland let go and did some damage to the head and the jug on the rh hole.
So. What's everyone figure I should replace it with. Definitely going with pistons with 2 ring glands for sure.
Was toying with the idea of a big bore kit. Anyone had any luck doing it on the carbed motors? Would probably have to clutch afterwards to eh?
I guess while I'm in this far too might as well do steering post.
Anybody seen any hp or reliability gains doing a y pipe and full exhaust system as well?

Some pics of the joy. Wasn't to bad to get down to it tho. 45 minutes from start to finish never doing it before and the jug and heads and pistons on the bench

I big bored my '09 and had good luck. I would bring it to Linderman in Hillcrest or Madmotorsports in Beaumont, who uses Linderman's work if I was to do it again. The builder will have gearing and clutching recommendations for you.

Did you tear into the bottom end at the same time?

did you end up going with a big bore kit?
I ended up getting started seeding and that rolled into having a baby in June and then haying from then till now. And now it's harvest from hell so maybe get after it next week. Gotta order some pistons and crap.

A friends 08 did the same. Are there anyone doing exchange on these motors like motts does with Polaris 800s? If the jugs are fine, what’s the rebuild cost? Should the bottom end come apart automatically? Change crank seals and regrease isoflex? School me please, I’d like to get him going.

Yes pull the bottom end apart. I bought a 2010 with a fresh rebuild, the guy said a local shop did it, 200 miles and squeaked a piston. Had a super reputable local guy rebuild it, turned out previous guy didn't check crank seals and mag side was leaking. Also the mag side idle jet was partially plugged. If you have a way to get your engine to/from Winnipeg area associated crankshaft is the best rebuilder around imo.

Hey guys ended up going with a Rebuilt bottom end from out east. Got busy with having a kid and harvest this fall so sent it to the old fella in town that does small motor stuff. Let you know how it turns out. When we got it down and the block out we found there was about 5 or 6 thou of play in the rod bearings so they weren't long for this world,
