YO JOE, Grabbed a 53 tooth gear for $70 and found a 112P Chain for $25 and figured I’d see if it fit.

Yup this was going to be my next change on my 174 but I ended up selling it.

Track speed is quicker to recover to maximum (equilibrium) ...better catwalk and wheelie control too...and lose less engine speed in a pull. Sidehilling, wrong foot forward the vehicle speed is slower compared to a faster top gear.

I hear what u are saying with gearing the t3 down for quicker track speed but i feel that it is so low geared and slow already i just cant go any slower. Its like driving your truck in low range all the time . How fast can u go with this 19 53 ?

I wanted a T3 174 so bad, until I rode that impressive tractor for a couple days (rental). just couldn't do it, and probably don't need it for my sledding.

63 mph man that's ridiculous u will get passed by snowbike and women and children. Lol. I don't think gearing down is a good idea.

Gearing is similar to a torque increase, good clutching will see that & shift up accordingly.

Your gear ratio target might be in your highest load condition, the lie about golf score or track speed numbers......equal sheave contact on both clutches. The drive belt is in that perfect oval position, equal sheave contact, very efficient position.

i've ran joe's clutch kit on my 2020 Freeride 165 3" last season and installed the low engagement red spring over the summer in addition to regearing to a 19/53. took the sled out yesterday which was the first time to test the new gearing and holy crap. so much torque and acceleration even when pinning from mid throttle. in terms of losing any top speed well, that was never a concern as it's a mountain sled. i have a buddy who just picked up a 2020 Summit after riding an XM for years and he's stoked on the low-midrange power of the 850. i can't wait for him to ride my sled to see the improvement that clutching and gearing makes.

I ran 2.72 gearing on my 174 pre turbo and it was a beast, still run low gearing with the turbo, just not that low. I dont get why people gear for 110km/hr track speed when you never ride at that speed in the mountains unless shoot climbing which i avoid unless needing access to a new area.

Not sure what you mean "and slow already". I dont know what that means in the context of the issue about maintaining track speed in a pull.
19-53 gives...
57mph (91kmh) at 1:1 clutch ratio, that is the belt pushing up to 7/8" from the rim of the primary.
63mph (101kmh) is 3/8" from the rim of the primary
68mph (110kmh) is full shift, belt at the rim of the primary and in the belt damage zone, in the secondary clutch.

In your mind, pick your favorite riding area and think about the pull you regularly do, climbing whatever, uhh....are you going to get 68mph track speed in that pull climbing in the trees at 6500 feet?
Ok, are you even going to get 57mph in a pull up some bench?
I was with 2 x 174' in Keystone a few Nov's ago and they were getting 66~68kmh track speed and said doing good.

I like the lower gearing for an element that CTD says about the belt being in the most efficient spot in both pulleys in a pull, or at least most close to the most efficient spot as you can get.

The belt travels along more of the sheave surface with a lower gear than a taller gear. The aluminum sheave draws away the heat from the belt, more surface area to cover, more heat drawn away.

When im going from this snow stash to that snow stash, I just drive slow around 6~6400 tops. Im trying to conserve fuel for the next pulls. I dont care about speeds on packdown or lake surfaces. When im done for the day, im fkin beat...I just want to sit in my lawn chair at the hauler and have a cold Busch. hahaha

Those that doubt the gearing change just don’t know what there talking about. I’m with joe and Bayam. We got a trygstad big bore in our group 18/53, it’s a beast!

even my turbo doo I am think a 1-2 tooth top gear change. More jam on the bottom and better top end holding power.

what do I know. Stay with you 2.3-2.5 gearing and “clutch” it better.

I sure your clutch kit and gear ratio works . My 174 xm pulls about 60 kph in the hard part of the climb where i ride. I've got over 9000km on this sled . I think the real issue for me is i just got to go back to a turbo 4 stokes. I just can't stand going this slow anymore . . The slow already is that 60 ish kph in a climb and 100 kph on flat ground is just boring im just sleeping out there. Well good luck im going shopping for something fast and exciting.

Ive got my test guys with 20.5 and 21 x 850T's getting anywhere from 55~65mph track speed (depends on where they are) running my kit and whatever ECU mod to make around 205hp.
Two of them Pat is in WA, former Cat turbo guy and Kyle in CO former Poo guy and both come from 200hp+ powered sleds.
A 3rd one from yamaha/mcxpress 260~300hp an now on 850R w/230+hp full race fuel.
Ive got more test guys in the 190hp range.

If you're going for new iron, then get a G4x850T and an ECU mod and you'll be in the 190~210hp range and look me up. Im already selling kits for it.
You wont have to fiddle with anything. Just drop the kit in and drive it.

Like say you got a +30hp setup, then apply 28.1 grams in clicker 3 and go. That will take you from sea level to 8000 feet and not have to adjust the weight or clicker.
...and mister you'll get "see ya later" track speed.

I dont know what sled you have.
Caper11 ran 21-53 in his T3 sled with 114p chain.
Alex is running 19-53 in his T3 sled with 112p chain.
BRP spec for T3 says...
154; 21-49 w/112p chain,
163; 21-51 w/112p chain,
174; 19-49 w/110p chain....so I suspect if you have this one, then you might be getting a 112p chain to run 19-53
