Looks like maybe one of my kids may have thrown out the DESS Keys for the wife and I's XM's (By accident).... Can a dealer program me a key without the ridiculous task of trying to load 2 dead sleds on my deck??

i am probably wrong, but i remember having to load the old 800 up on a deck, by myself with a 5 ft digging bar, an inch at a time. the dealer had to reprogram the key or a new key. you may have to find a hand winch or a few buds, i would also suggest having a dealer program each key to work on both sleds? or even have a couple buds program there keys for each others sleds. can save immense hassles down the road.

the computer has to be at the sled. So two options , sweet talk your dealer to bring out the computer to you or take the sleds to the dealer.

That's what I feared... I'm 2hrs from the nearest dealer and have to load both sleds onto a sled deck.

Jay, there are only so many combinations of DESS keys (I have heard in the neighbourhood of 10). Maybe ask around and borrow some to see if they will work on your sleds before you load them up. All I have are the new RAF ones and I don't think the XM's have those type. I could be wrong and if they are the RAF type you can definitely borrow one of our keys.

Unfortunately its not supposed to be a easy task, you will need to bring the sleds in and proof of ownership if I remember right.

That is wrong. You can store I believe up to 8 different dess keys into you sled. If you normally ride with the same guys you can get there keys programed in and just have one spare for your group (also programed in). These could save having to tow/fly a sled out if a key gets lost or broken while out riding.

Anywhere the snow is deep, and the hills are steep
It's not the RAF type... Looks like the spare's gone too. I guess you shouldn't store them all in the same place when not riding lol. They were in a basket that i think got knocked in the garbage when the kids were cleaning the gear room.

Exactly.

People think the key gets programmed to the sled. It's the other way around. The sled has to learn the code of the key.
