It’s a check valve manifold that controls flow direction of vacuum and pressure to the solenoid that in turn controls the rave valves. One of the check valves must have been bad in it. Physically it looked ok.

I heard a rumor last season that skidoo was going to discontinue that part.... would be a poor call on their part.

I don’t know what people will do if they discontinue making this. Be a lot of sleds being parted out.

I call fake news. Why would Doo discontinue a part that is integral to their 800 etec platform? Its only 3 years old next winter. It isn't going away.
YOu would know better than us, check into it and report back please.

Well I was wrong. Must have been a fluke that it was fine at home. Drive 7 hours to the riding area, 20km up a bumpy trail, got to the alpine and first hill same ****.

Came down and pulled the clutch apart. Has some wear but nothing obviously broken. Only part I’m not sure about is the sheave face. It has a bit of a shoulder that I don’t is good or bad enough to cause a slip or problem. The sled never says over rev, just pops and backfires at around 7200rpm.

I dunno what to do next.

clutch looks fine. That shoulder is on most clutches. not an issue as the belt is only sitting there at idle so it wouldnt cause any issues especailly not at 7200rpm.

Well chit, and still wont throw any codes ?

No codes, no over rev on the display. Just rev to 7100-7300 rpm then pops and farts. Won’t push past it. Doesn’t matter where the clickers are at.

Might sound very dumb on my part.
Have not followed thread.

Try a brand new spring.
My spring was not broken but very weak. Caused some very weird symtoms on my 16 xm.

rebuild clutch now that it apart that far....

We’ll see what Banner in Golden has to say. I’m done with it.

I have found in my 35 plus years in the industry that clutching doesn’t make a sled backfire. Look elsewhere..

I'm willing to bet your raves still arent opening for some odd reason.

I had a combination of funky fuel pressure, and something cracked or leaking in the RAVE vacuum system that I couldnt find... or the dealers for that matter.

She would cough and fart and backfire at that same RPM, it started only doing it out west, then slowly it would do it the odd time at home. Of course the dealership could never get it to make the symptoms.

After the dealerships not being able to figure it out, and one even telling me not to ride it at that RPM. Rrrrreal helpful that advice was...

So after some diagnosing on the sled stand and finally getting it to consistently back fire.... (10" blue flame out the stock can)... I ended up changing both the regulator and the pump, fuel pressure does not move off 44 PSI now. Pulled the injectors, tore them apart, nozzles and all. Put them in my ultrasonic cleaner for a few hours and Reassembled with new hardware.

Sled still had some issues at 7200 ish rpm but not as bad... I'd had enough

Took the sled to Dean at Mad Motorsports and got him to convert the Raves to cylinder pressure vs the vacuum system.

Has not backfired since and pulls better now as the RAVEs open up a little more at WOT.

That is what worked for my 14.

Took it in to banner in golden today. First off those guys in the shop are pretty top shelf imo. They rolled it right in off the truck and started looking at it, had it for 2 hours and only charged me $60.

But, here’s the rest of the story. They put it right on the stand and it wouldn’t backfire, but it wouldn’t rev past 7100 either.
So they threw some plug wires at it after checking the plugs out, no change.
Checked the spark, it wasn’t dropping out.
Checked the raves, they were working fine.
Checked fuel pressure and the regulator, tip top.
Had BUDS hooked up and no codes, everything was good, even cylinder contribution, nothing wrong. All the sensors are reading good.
Checked the fuel quality and it’s fine.

Then for no apparent reason, they ran it up and it ripped right up to 8100. No backfire no hesitation. Just like it should. Did it multiple times and it was perfect. Took it down to their little test track and ripped around and it was running awesome and pulling really hard they said. I got a video of a short pull where it ripped but don’t know how to add it through crapatalk.

So I dunno wtf. Now it’s fine.
It’s for sale too.
