Any tricks to take a primary clutch apart on my 2016 t3. It was stubborn to get off the engine now using the puller to separate the halfs I can't get it apart. Any trips would be great

Leave puller in clutch and drop the clutch on cement floor puller first if it won’t separate with hitting puller end with hammer ?
Most times they separate with just a good strike or two on puller end .

Seems I always end up hammering on the puller to no avail, then start dropping the whole clutch puller-first on the concrete from higher and higher until you're sure it's going to break something, then finally just say **** it and smash it against the floor and it finally separates

It’s a sick feeling eh. I’m 6’5 and 280 lbs. It was all I could do to even get my primary off the other day. I actually bent the tip of my clutch tool. It finally shot off the sled. You get to a point where you think ok. It’s going to break.

The water trick works great for getting it off the crank, just need to be able to flip the sled on its side. But yes splitting the clutch halves can be a PITA

I’ve never had an issue getting my clutch off or apart.. The biggest thing I’ve found is to make sure the crank and inside clutch taper are clean and dry on reassembly. Sliding half comes apart easy with a good smack of the puller bolt on concrete or steel plate.

Something a lot of people forget about with the water technique, after you get the clutch off, blow all the water out of the end of the crank or your clutch bolt could rust and end up being seized on the shaft. I had this happen last year and I ended up breaking the clutch bolt off inside the crankshaft, it took some creative thinking to get the busted bolt out.

Lots of good advice here especially cleaning out the crank after the water trick. I only use the water trick no puller. Had a hell of a time the other night though, kept pushing water through the teflon tape it took me 6 tries. I almost had to go for a thicker liquid like oil but I hate the cleanup after that. I don't like to smack the bolt on concrete directly I put a boot mat down before smacking it to separate the sheaves.

try different tape. i must have tried the princess auto stuff 100x one night to no avail. thought i was going crazy. friend brought over some better stuff from work and boom first try.

oh and for the guys that are using the puller bolt.........only supposed to take as much torque as the clutch bolt! no more! if it doesnt come off try some light taps with the hammer on the end of the bolt or let it sit for a bit.

Heat gun on the center of the clutch and it pops off easy. It don’t take much heat.

This.
More specifically, you want to use the yellow stuff typically used for natural gas. It is much thicker and stronger.
I also find threading the bolt in quickly is key.
