XM bogging- fuel pressure

Been dealing with this issue for a few years, she bogs when hot and heat soaked. But runs fine below 6200rpm.

Spliced in a fuel pressure gauge to my bars (and yes I purged the line). In the shop- 45lbs at idle. Holds 45 for a while after stopped.

On the trail- waited for the first fluttering the trail, look down and 20lbs. At about 6600rpm. Let off and back to 45.

Rode 15km trail not stopping, heat soaked the engine. Coolant gauge showing 45deg. Super warm and humid out almost raining, above 4 deg temps.

Get to a spot I can climb- to the bar and immediate bogging and have to pull out, look down and 10lbs fuel.

Idle it down hill at 20lbs. Shut off, gauge springs back to 45lbs. Turn on and idle and stays at 45lbs. Super funny that it springs back to 45 eh.

Trail ride down off the mtn. Got it to bog a lot corresponding to 10lbs fuel. Come to a stop and as above, she’d be at 20lbs. Hit the kill switch, pops back in the low 40’s. Start it again and back to 45lbs. Take off and down to 20. Pin it and 10lbs and bogggggggggggg. And repeat.


No hot start issues ever. But I have electric start also. Have issues at idle when cold and often have to restart it.



I’m pulling the gas tank and pump today to see if the regulator is sitting ok.


Coils both at 1330ohms.
Don’t have pump resistance values that I can find.


I have a water separator on my fill station in the shop.
No check engine light ever.


Been searching the three forums and I’m not finding any posts about fuel pressure while running. On my old m-1000 cat, she ran at whatever pressure I set my regulator to all day long. Should be the same for any sled shouldn’t it be??


Any tips appreciated.

Pull the fuel pump and check the intake screen. Seen them plug with very fine debris and cause those symptoms.

I would check what the previous poster said, make sure the pickup screens are free of obstruction.
As for the pump it self as you described, it is normal for the fuel pump pressure to drop as the demand increases on it, all fuel pumps react this way. The question is "how much is too much" to effect driveability (performance).
Fuel pump in general are trouble free, unless it has many hours on it or the system had been at one time contaminated thus damaging the pump.
At this point, after checking the pickup screens and pickup lines for kink or damage, if all looks good, i would simply replace the pump, they are inexpensive.
Don't go to BRP for a fuel pump, you will get raped. Go to any auto center like Napa. BRP does not make fuel pumps but uses a basic automotive fuel pump for injection systems. Places like Napa can supply you with the exact pump for a fraction of the price and will most likely have it in stock, your BRP dealer probably won't.
Then once you have done this if the problem persist, i would suspect the issue is related to clutching and not so much fueling. Clutching has a way of throwing a curve ball when your trying to figure a performance problem and is usually the culprit to MOST ALL performance related issues.

BTW, i would also confirm that the power valve are operating, if they are not opening you will get similar symtom.

Clutching gone through last season. New springs and bushings- I also have a ROOSTERBUILT kit that works wonderfully.

Power valves- you can feel when they open on the trail, like riding a cat, I putter up with them closed and know exactly when they wanna open up and haul azzzz. Almost like grabbing a gear!

Regulator was seated and screwed in place just fine.

Pump 3ohm resistance cold.

By chance would anybody know the NAPA part number for the fuel pump?

try talking to your dealer. Great advice above. If you do take apart your pump there is an extra filter inside the pump , but it sounds like your pump is toast. Does not sound like your sled is turbo, but per ce it is, then it needs 42lbs consistentently

Fuel filter got swapped before the last ride.

Sled is at the shop a couple days ago, will give an update in a few days.

rather then get beat around by doo for a a full assy. these pumps have been working great for us.

With our exchange and shipping it ends up being close to $100.00 landed, comes with a new filter pillow as well.

New fuel pump assembly and she was 100% today. Pressure stayed at 45 all day long.
No long pulls. Just short WOT busting trail this afternoon in about a foot of fresh.

Thanks for this, was able to locate it on Amazon and less expensive too boot.

Tried getting the local parts places around town to cross reference numbers but couldn't. Its a Ford part # of some sort but cant narrow it down...Now if I can just find where to source the pressure regulator from I'll be doing good.
