LH finger throttle

Was sledding last weekend and realized I wanted one of these. So I found and old bike and went to work, pretty easy actually, not pretty but cost me $0. I have it set to 3/4 throttle at fully pulled.

yeaa that looks like stranger danger if you tree ride at all too... probably some of the best wrecks I've seen came because of left handed throttles, myself included, piled into a guy parked on the trail in a corner coming down Allen, went to grab the brakes... and grabbed a handful of lefty,,, costed me a M hood, and a tunnel job on a xp.
Haven seen one on a sled in the hills in a long while... wonder why

I've been running a left hand throttle on my sleds for 25 years. Some I built, some I bought. Go ahead and bash me too! I've got big shoulders.

Didn't know a personal experience and opinion was bashing... those big shoulders must be soft.

Typical S&M. :rant:

Take it how you want. When I am at a sled show I have more guys come up to me and tell me how bad it was to run a lefty and have it freeze up on them. Thousands of dollars latter and they are ripping it off and buying and Phantom. Not my words, theirs.

My wife wanted one on her sleds a few years ago. I told her it was a bad idea. First deep day out and I was taking it off on the side of the hill. Froze at half throttle.

watched a shop mechanic run a brand new sled into the outboard rack, not 5 minutes after installing one for a fellow with one arm. not safe at all.

if you have issues with the thumb throttle when on the off side of the machine look into the finger throttle from munsters. my girlfriend has one on her freeride and loves it. i like it alot as well just not enough to switch

I think people like them because on the right side of the sled they put their left hand on the grab strap and want to be able to do that on the left side. But that style takes your hands off the brake. You should always for argument's sake have one finger on the brake and your thumb on the throttle. If your finger for what ever reason is off the brake you run the risk of being out of control. Now add in the fact that a left hand throttle freezing or being pulled accidently bypasses the throttle safety switch equals disaster.

That's why I say take the grab strap off and force yourself to use counter steer, throttle and brake control to ride and you will be better off for it.

i have a buddy who is left handed so he swapped both levers sketchy to say the least when i loaded on the deck one side or the other but not both for me

Yep. All the time. I usually hold the brake and get the engine to clutch engagement and apply throttle, counter steer rider input and release the brake to get back on edge in a short distance in a bad off camber situation. Then back on the brake to set the track again and carry on. Can use the brake when washing out. A quick stab of the brake while pushing down on the bars can drop the front of the sled quite quickly. If you are looking for traction you can cycle from throttle to brake quickly to pack the snow a bit to get a little extra launch. And yes I am quite hard on belts and primary clutches. I had my clutch sheaves wore out on my 13 in 700 miles. But I like to have fun when I ride, not brag about getting 1500 miles on a belt. The more beat up my sled is the happier I am.
