Folks, my clutches need some attention so I'm thinking maybe change it up a little.
I want a more "connected" feel. You know, touch the flipper and have the sled jump.
Track speed in a climb has been fine, actually I usually don't go straight up, much prefer the zig zag approach!
Spring is coming so some engine braking would be nice.
Any suggestions?
Oh, 200 lb rider, 7000' elevation. Trees please riding style.

I find some clutch kits are to abrupt and trench too fast for tree riding

Stock clutching to me has a less trenching hit, but still goes

How many miles on the clutches? What work have you done to the sled?

Stock with 4500 kms. Clutches inspected a couple thousand ago. Starting to rattle now so a rebuild is in order.

Yup stock has worked pretty well. I find if I keep the clickers as low as possible, the sled likes to jump ahead with quick throttle bursts. Just wondering if there is any room for improvement.

Have ya ever replaced the stock springs with new ones

They will be sagged out by now, made a big difference in my 14 xmx 163 when I replaced them at 5000 km

If it's got 4500km and never been rebuilt it will be toast. The T3 ramps are already pretty good but try DJ ramps for a more connected feel on take off. All in all the T3's are clutched very well stock unless there is something you really desire you won't see a big change. I put a black spring in my secondary and engine braking is noticeably better.

There is lots left on the table in regards to clutching on a stock sled. Its really up to the owner tho and what the rider expects, and wants out of his sled.

Ive reclutched two T3s other than mine and those owners were very pleased with the results.

I let a 165 3" 850 owner ride my 174 on tues and he said my 174 pulls just as hard up the hill as his sled.

What did you do to your 174 for clutching?

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
Rebuild both clutches. On the secondary, replace rollers and moveable sheave bearing (bushing). Replace primary spring. Replace secondary spring with 417127039.
This will get you back to stock. Once back to normal then maybe look at changing things but i dont recommend throwing a bunch of aftermarket clutch parts at it unless you have very solid testimg info or you like to wrench.
IMHO.

Just would like to feel more connected, like the later Cats feel.
You know, jab the throttle and the sled jumps.
Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly.
Stock, the clutching is very good.
If it was a truck, lower gears would make it feel better.

I have a 2015 xm 174. I put a clutch kit in from I-backshift. Better throttle response and awesome back shifting. Holds 8000 all day. Still not happy with track speed on big climbs. Sled came stock with 19-49 gears so I change to 21-49. 5 mph more track speed on a climb and rpm didn't change. Also less rpm while cruising on the trails. My setup seems to load the motor more and use the torque rather than zingy rpm all the time. There might be better setups but for me this is a lot better than stock.

If you want it to jump off the line, find out the starting rate on the primary spring and raise it by 40. Its gonna spin the track more from a standing start and it will be all revy in the parking lot (looks and sounds cool) but if thats what you want it can be done.

Nope, I guess I'm not explaining it properly. I don't want higher engagement.
I've already stressed about this enough. Stock rebuild time!
I almost broke my golden rule, "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it"

All I do is replace springs and slider pucks every year. I also removed all the pin weight to keep the adjusters on 3 at altitude. I have to watch it at home as it will over rev. High miles will probably need more parts for sure....good luck.

I know what your looking for. Ramps, springs, weight and a helix change is the answer to your question.

Pm Caper and he will fix you up . No sense in discussing clutching on a open forum such as S&M.
Waste of time !!
Cheers
