ice scratchers on xm??

got my xm today and bought some ice scratchers to put on, but can't seem to find a good spot for them, also do you have to drill the holes new? i don't see any where they'd fit with factory holes. i would greatly appreciate if anyone had pictures of where they installed their on a new xm. thanks

I put a cable scratcher on mine, the most forward hole in the rail had to be drilled a little larger but the placement was fine.

IMHO, you don't have to worry about drilling holes for the scratchers. We have been dooing it for years in all sorts of places with no ill effects. The holes that theGeneral is talking about in the front of the skid would be a good place to start. Good luck. :danceMsn:

I have cable ones on mine too in the same place these guys are saying. My dealer put mine farther back on the skid but they were rubbing on the track so i changed that.

My dealer put mine in the wrong place too. I had to drill new holes and there is only one place that they will fit properly. The hooks will hook in just behind the idler wheels when closed. The holes must be drilled in the higher part of the skid. Or just go cable scratchers and have no head aches. I drilled a few holes till I got the right place......light weighting the skid by accident! Fak me!

I got those new "reversible" ones ..

frankly, I'm not impressed.

They don't stay put on your rails, one of them fell off as I was loading the sled, I had to back the sled down and re-try loading and let me tell ya, those do not reverse on yoru ramp lol

so it lasted 1/2 a day

think i'll go back to the regular style scratchers .. at least they stay on your rails and don't automatically engage

I put a set of regular old style scratchers on last night. Used the forward most factory hole on the rail for the 3/8" bolt... had to hog it out upwards with the Dremel as it is not high enough to center the whole assembly on the rail (would have been too low if it was just drilled out to 3/8"). Instead of resting the end of the scratcher on the rail, I installed a 1/4" eye bolt that the end sits in while not in use... nice clean look and no ugly damage to the rail where the end rests. I will take a pic and post tomorrow.

Thanks I was feeling cheap for not buying those new ones but I figured regular ones are half the price so even if I screw them up badly I can still replace them and be no worse off. The RSI's were only $35 at the snow show.

does anyone have pics of their scratchers on i would greatly appreciate it so i see exactly how your placement is, save the hassal of drilling several holes before getting it right. i just bought the original scratchers to, i really need the scratchers installed asap. not nearly enough snow here for this beast without having sliders down

I'll try to remember to post a photo of where I put mine later tonight. Drilled some holes on the only thick part of the rails to do it though.

I doo mine just like brew-doo and looks clean and works........But this dumm ass bought the new latest and greatest ones for XM and now the ski on end of scratcher won't fit in eyelet..........I will have to buy a 1 1/2 inch eyelet to make it work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hey guys i put on the reversible scratchers and used a couple of tarp strap hooks to hold them up from falling off the rails with no damage. Had them on for over 300 miles work great.

That's a helluvan idea. The threaded eyelets that they shipped out broke after a few rides.

@ Brew_Doo, I love it... how good is it after you get up the trail and your skid is covered in snow or at the end of the day when everything is iced? usually have to clean the rails off before I can get my scratchers back on and secure once you reach the cabin.

Anybody hear or see someone put them up front on the skis. Been told it works better talked to guy who has them on the skis of his XM he says it works the best.

On the skis???? Really????? Seems like a lot of snow all over you and the rest of the sled...... I think b the time it gets to the hyfax on the skid the spray is dispersed so much it migh not work that good at all..... Might "look" like its working great because you can see an most likely feel the snow (since it will be hitting yo all over the place) but personally I think at the very front of the skid in the most forward unused hole on the rails is the most ideal spot....

Could be wrong tho... would like to see a pic of his set up tho.....
