Converting my 294 elan to a mikuni. Tried tons of research of installing a 34mm. Has been done from what i read just no luck finding a breakdown on what anybody has used for guts..... anyone have any input? If i cant find much info i will be doing a 30mm just have a 34mm on hand is all.

TIA

I have done that in the past a lot of testing but i used a 30 or 32mm, to get the adapter to mikuni might be a challenge now and add a fuel pump also a primer and a throttle cable may have to be made up. Check out Vintagesled.com lots of info there.

Yup already have it mounted and ran it last year straight off of a blizzard 4500. Seemed to run really lean tho. Bought an arrangment of guts to try this year. Was just wondering what has been successful. On some other forums "vintage elan guy" is his handle has done it but i cant seem to get ahold of him

I have swapped out the tilly for a Mikuni a few times on different machines. I found that even if someone does reply and give jetting specs they still end up different after proper tuning. The best method is the tried n true testing and plug reading. Start rich on the main jet, if you think its lean jump up a few sizes and find "impossibly-rich". Then work your way down. When the main jet is close tune the needle then the pilot jet. Then go back to the needle and main. Then if still required tune the slide.

i think with the 34 you might have problems with low-signal strength on the bottom side (pilot and slide). If this happens you will find it hard to start the engine and transition from idle to 1/3 throttle will be difficult. The temptation is to increase idle speed and richen the needle (because you don't have a pilot or slide handy) so it will run at low to mid rpms, but that will cause it to get rich on the main. Causing you to lean the main. Then when you hold it wide open for a stretch it will fry a piston ... Yep been there done that. Not saying it can't be done, just saying you gotta be careful to tune it right.

Lots of good reading over on dootalk.
