ive installed a new recoil assembly, it works fine when starting stone cold. after driving for a bit and when up to temperature, the pawl wont grab..... any ideas why? or suggestions on how to fix
Rebuilt many, and they never seem to last.... Have replaced complete ass'y last few sleds, and lasting wonderfully. I would recomend replace the whole ass'y.... If you did replace the whole ass'y with a new unit, then i would take it back for warranty
Running the stock muffler is harder on rewinds also.
Put some reflective tape or something to help with the heat.
Piece of high density foam between rewind and cast brace helps also.
Plastic parts and heat don't work good together.
I've lunched my share of REV recoils now and this is a new on on me... is it an OEM or jobber?
First recoil my sled ate was an OEM, not sure how old it was, then after that it mangled two jobber recoils in quick succession. I went back to an OEM w/ reflective aluminum duct tape and so far so good (fingers crossed, knock on wood, pray to sled gods).
Guys much smarter than I have suggested that, in the event I wreck another, I replace it with a recoil off an RT1000 as they are built much sturdier and fit just the same.
Till then, I'll continue to carry a 4ft length of flat strap in my bag in case of catastrophic recoil meltdown.
thanks... it is a new oem recoil.
I pulled It off and it was really sticky with grease, so cleaned excess grease with brake clean... ill get some sort of heat protection on there... heading back out to see if it works
Do put meatal reflective duck tape on it. The grease is ok on the shaft but the only thing that giver resistance to throw the pal out is the o ring under the lock washer tab thing no
grease on this part or the o ring.
