A buddy of mine is having issues with his sled...and it's come to my house for fixing. again.
This time, the RPM stays up when you let off the throttle...you do a blast on the thumb, and it'll stay rev'd a few seconds after you let off....the lever is bottomed out, and you can hear the slides hitting the idle stops when you snap it...so why is it holding on? Boots are good. runs good. plug color is good. I had been thinking it was getting fugitive air, through the boots or something, but the idle is fine, and the ether test doesn't change the rpm at all...
It's a 2005 or 6 Renegade 800

Does it ever idle down? What's it idling at? Make share the idle screw is backed out, and insure the cable isn't pulled out a bit on the thumb lever inside or the cable is not stretching when your turn the bars. Keep it simple first

I see! So does it only do it with the sled moving or stopped?

I do agree fugitive air but looks like you have looked for that. I am thinking it is a tad rich and the excess fuel past the carb slides, reeds, crankcase and ports is burning off before it can idle down well. Hard to tell without knowing further but my guess. Look at the piston crowns and see if its rich, plugs are as reliable for color.

I just pinched my Throttle cable between my bars and my riser.... I was installing a Garmin Montana and had to take the bars off. When i was re-installing i wasn't watching and pinched it flat. I was all geared up to go riding when i noticed it so i tried opening up the pinch and got it nice a loose but now it idles really high. It stays around 4000rpm unless i give it a real quick Braaapppp. The throttle is slapping all the way back too. 126$ later i have a cable on order!! Dummy Move!! Is this cable easy to change? When i first got my sled (2009 XP) it had a engine light on and when i took it in it was the throttle position sensor. He had to hook it up to the computer to adjust the throttle to a certain spot.
