Looks like I might need a short block for my 17 850. Was about 2.5 km from truck and made a sound like belt was letting go and then knock sensor flashed on gauge and i shut sled off. Didnt want to turn over when i tried again on electric start but fired up again and sounded down one cylinder. Shut off and towed back to truck.

From what i can find on internet they range from $2300 to $2700.

Just want to have a good price idea when i take it to dealer to
havr it looked at and fixed.

Thanks

Don't quote me as the gospel but I believe its far more than that. They would have rebuilt SB's now but guys were saying the warranty bill was north of $9000. Maybe someone can chime in that has had one replaced a short time ago?.

Hoping it is just the top end and just need some pistons ect.. $ 9000 is more than the sled is worth. Hope you are wrong as that will suck

With a good core shortblock is around 2500$ if that’s all that’s wrong. but with labour you would be north of 5k for a short block swap at the dealer.

Yep you nailed the price

So after going to see dealer my warranty expired on November 30th and the engine failed on December 5th. Dealer submitted a case to see if BRP would do anything as only past 5 days. Brp wanted buds info ect so dropped sled at dealer.

Came back BRP wouldnt do anything for me and told dealer to use good will. Well they aint got much good will left in budget and won't cover much.

So i call BRP and ask for help. They open another case and going to look into. Get call today from BRP and have to go see dealer. Not sure if they are still assessing or if good will again. .

Will find out tomorrow

All engine jobs are required to do a BUD's download. It is "dated" on the report. And that sir is how you get caught lying.

"Sir" is treating me with respect or making fun, I will go with making fun.

The incoming date of the WO is what matters, the date you do your BUDS scan won't matter if you are within the 21 days. If the dealership has a good customer relationship & more important the respect & working relationship with BRP service there will be no issue.

No lying, just working within the guidelines given.

No offence there ctd. Just stating what I learned in my 45 years in the industry. I guess if your shop is still doing paper work orders and mailing the claims to BRP then anything is possible? Most modern shops are doing work orders on a point of sale program that doesn't allow for back dating. Better to play it fair and square and beg BRP for leinancy. If they catch you lying its not good. You will get a snotty letter from corporate and will be sending tie wraps back for inspection on a wiring harness claim. What shop do you work for? Maybe I know the owner?

Does BUDS report the calendar date and time of events?
Yes, I believe so. When you log on the date is displayed. The manufacturer has hidden pages that the Dealer cannot access. It can tell you pretty much the complete history of the sled. The overheat codes are critical like the OP said. I have seen claims killed for overheat codes. This is my personal opinion but my feeling is all these Experts and Turbos running around with short flaps and short tunnels are gonna see a lot of killed claims for engine failures. Do not get the sled to the point it shuts down from heat or you may not be a happy camper.

They didnt give me a date for overheat but said at 75hrs use on sled was when I did the excessive over heat. I was curious about dates but never asked. I have over heated a couple times over the years i have had sled.

Its pretty common on spring trails. Guys don't think much about it but it can come to bite you down the road. I'm almost positive you would have at least got your parts under warranty and maybe pay for labor without that code on what I have seen in the past. Sucks for you though either way.

Sounds like this year might be the new sled year. Dealer might give you a break trading it in now opposed to dumping a bunch of money into it.

Never had one shutdown on overheat but have had it as warm as 80C on low snow and stopped. While you sit there for a while and then start up again latent heat sets the overheat beep beep on start up and goes out right away. That would be weak if a claim was denied because of that. 80 C doesn't seem to hot to me? I could hold my hand on the engine
