Im looking at a 2018 skidoo freeride 165 with about 2000 miles on it just trying to get a idea of your thoughts on these sleds and anything I should really be concerned about? Thanks in advance

Not really, good sled. Pretty high miles for a mountain sled though make sure its priced accordingly

OP is in Seattle guys. Are you looking at Terry's sled? If so he takes care of his stuff but either way 2000 miles is getting up there for a pre 2019 850 motor.

Chat to c of red on here he has an awesome deal on an 18 freeride with warranty

Thanks for the plug Trev. I’ve got the 2020 for sale as well.

To the original poster, I love my 2018 165 Freeride. It is an awesome sled. I wouldn’t hesitate from a 2018 850 at all. The only thing I don’t like about it compared to my 2020 is the first 8” of the running boards. The new ones evacuate snow up front better. On my ‘18 I have to kick snow out.

2000 mi is high? Why do you say that. Ski doo said that motor clutch ect were good for 5000 mi with out problems.

If 2000 miles is considered a lot for a sled I’m guessing the majority of people don’t take them out of the garage. What a shame, sledding is sorta fun.
I think you could maybe say it was back 10-15 years ago but not now. Kind of like 100,000 kms used to be a lot on a vehicle, you know back when people changed oil every 5,000kms. Stuff is way better now.

I’m not so sure about that. Mountain miles are far different than trail KM. 10,000 miles is pretty normal for eastern trail sleds. But mountain machines are put under far more stress. That being said I believe the new skidoo motor can make 5000 miles no problem mountain riding, yes some will fail prematurely. But my statement is purely based off of my past snowmobile sales. Anything with over 3000km is a very hard sell. even though it has years of life left in it for someone, that’s just the way the market is, 2 strokes aren’t known for their reliability or high mileage by any brand so naturally when spending 10,0000+$ they are looking for the low milers. For myself I put on 2500 miles a year easily. So I unload my
Sled every season. I don’t have much choice or I would be stuck with 15 sleds

Your response is a little flip floppy. On one hand you tell me I’m incorrect and that 2000 miles is a lot for a sled. Then you proceed to say 2500 mi in a season is no biggy and that the motor can easily handle 5000 mountain miles which agrees with what I stated.

I agree there is a big difference between mountain and trail miles but the gent is from Seattle so we can just assume he means mountain use. I also agree it’s harder to sell a 1-3 year old sled with 2000 miles. But not because it’s worn out, it’s because there are lots of 1-3 yr old sleds that have been barely ridden. A 2000 mile sled is a pretty safe buy from a reliability perspective, it just needs to be priced accordingly because there are lots of similar sleds with 600 miles for sale.

The original post was asking about buying a 2000 mi sled from a reliability perspective, not a resale perspective. I’d say giver as long as the price is right, especially if it still has 1-2 years of warranty.

Yes it was Terry’s sled down here near Seattle. It is a really nice sled that I gotta really good deal on. I’m excited for my son and myself to have a chance to ride it. Thank you everyone for the replying.
