Just looking for ideas where the coolant is going on my 2017 850. It’s at he shop and they pressure tested it and say they can’t find a leak holding 16 pounds. I feel like an idiot because I have put over a litre of coolant in it. Reservoir was empty filled it up 2 rides later empty again another 2 rides and again empty. I’m assuming it’s going into the engine somewhere where should I look. Trying to get this figured out before warranty runs out. Pretty sure it shouldn’t be using that much coolant lol. Any idea or info on this would be appreciated thx. Do these engines have a problem? I haven’t noticed white smoke or an antifreeze smell so not sure

It could leak past a clamp if the weather is really cold and will stop once the sled warms up. Have seen this a lot over the years. If its burning it you are probably gonna foul plugs.

has the engine or cooling system ever been apart? Im wondering if it just wasnt bled properly. Remove the cap and let it idle with the front of the sled 3ft in the air ( engine above rear cooler) and add coolant until all the air is out and let it circulate for a few minutes over operating temp.

a sled will leak through the head gasket enough to not smell it and burn a small amount. thats really the only place you could look next.

Not sure if engines been apart as I bought used from dealership. I will talk to them more when I go get it if they no the history of it. Head gasket is my guess but it probably won’t be a problem til it’s off warranty lol I will try and bleed it when I get it back if they still haven’t found it thx for the info

Here's a possibility based on my similar XM experience. Doo's cooling system likes to find its own natural coolant level and often that level is very low in the overflow reservoir. When you refill it beyond the equilibrium level the system will just spit the additional coolant out the vent tube next time you ride it. If you pull the cap and you can hear the vacuum break and the level comes up a bit in the bottle its probably fine.

Something is opening up at operating temp and passing coolant. A crack in the head, block, or head o-rings. I even had one in a case do that in an old 995 SDI with cooled case halves.

I'll see if he has had any issues in the last 2 weeks, I suggested your tactic Max.

yea, i havent had that happen on a stock motor yet but ive had a few remanufactuered cylinders now that have leaked around the exhuast port. so it wasnt even burning in the engine just drizzling down into the pipe. just love taking motors apart twice in the same day

I agree 100%

Both mine are well below the cold min line, till ya pop the cap, then it comes up

If ya put any in, then it just pukes it out till its happy again

Now if you have to add 1 litre after every ride or through the day, then yes there's a leak
