the starter motor is engaging but the new start system does not have a bendix and the splinned starter shaft engages a gear system that turns a gear on the magneto. This gear system seems to be the issue but is not listed as available for this year. 2018 that I think is the same part is $700.00. Any comments or solutions or experiences with this issue would be helpful other than spending the $700.00

Did you install the kit? There should be a parts breakdown on a factory Estart sled online or with the kit. Go back to you're dealer for possible warranty.

the e-start was factory installed. i found out that the starter drive the part that is not functioning must be on the motor attached to the magnito and the engine has to be removed to replace it.

Pretty costly repair just for the parts onlt.

You can always just add a pull start for cheap.

Buddy did this rather than repair his e-start.

Sure not as simple as say the 16's and older.
Again, another change that will cost us large to fix the E-Start.
I was rather surpised when I looked up the parts list after your original post.

Thanks for oroginal information and good luck.

Not sure why they are selling that one part for $700 when The complete electric start kit is $705 and includes that part (if we are talking about the same part P2 starter drive)

I had lots of problems with the estart on my 17's On one the bolts came loose and it ended up bending the starter shaft. The other one is like yours just spins. BRP don't know how to fix it . They have some special grease but my buddy also had the same problem and the grease only worked for a while. If you don't have a pull start sometimes pulling it over on the right side helps it engage. My buddy fixed his by trading it in on a 2019 LOL
