I would say there is at bare minimum the difference between a 800 and new 850. The 850 narrowed the gap on 872. We ride with 850's and have rented them a few times. The stock 850 with 165 will not run with my 872. However a clutched and piped 850 i think would be different. My oldest son just bought a 850 165 3" so we will see the comparison once we get his dialed in. Thats why I asked about 927. I know greg well at jaws, so I'll chat him. A well clutched 850 with pipe might be all a guy needs.

then your gonna spend a bunch on clutch stuff.

+your time or someone elses to install.

plus the thing is kinda finicky and needs an elborate break in.

you should talk to my friend Carter in revelstoke about what he thinks about it before you buy....

We hooked up with carter for half a day when he was breaking it in, he took my 2014 154 3" freeride for a rip with some pretty dialled clutching and said if his didn't need a motor when he did the big bore the money woulda been better spent on track and clutch... He popped his 872 without that many k didn't he?

Dyno numbers are way to easy to fake, no way a pipe and head will get you 30hp. 5 to 10 at best and that's being generous. Same goes for the big bores, from what I've seen a track and clutching is money well spent.

At the end of the day will the 927 out run LHF's 1160?
Skeptical that these are claimed to make the same power as a billet cylinder 1160 or 1025 Crankshop triple. Both are old school engines but....

I’m a die triple nut. Have tweaked 600 triple in s chassis. I think the 872 would smack a well piped 809 and maybe even a 889. However to give the triple justice they just never had good as chassis to sit in as we have now. If you could wedge a triple like you mentioned in these new chassis’s I think a lot of twin banger lovers would be very surprised.

LHF had or maybe still has? an Engine Tech 1160 twin. Put that in a G4 and bet it spanks the 927 haha

I dont really put much faith in random dyno sheets on the net.


Seen a lot of false claims over the years. Im sure she rips. As hard as a race gas 1160? I dont think so.

But if ur convinced, dont worry about trying to convince me.:beer:

Thats not random, I believe those Powderfreak Numbers.

As for the 1160 I think those numbers are low, compared to today’s technology in engines. When the 800 made 145-150 HP that engine Tech kit was a respectable gain.

yeah brp told me the etec 800 was 163hp came out with the 850 and said it is 165 but makes 10hp more...

When it came out yes. That 2010.5 engine was different than the other etecs and that engine was only built 1 year, it ran at 8100 rpm and was dynoed by dyno tech not BRP.
The following year the operating RPM dropped to 7900 rpm.


We may as well just say all the 800’s range engines make 120hp, and the 1160 is the way to go, even tho the 1160 engine is about 15 years old.



Regardless of the claimed HP to get the topic back on track yes the 927 is a gain over the 850.

I know a while ago, powder freaks brought his sled over to npps shop. To do an independent dyno test. The horsepower was lower on npps dyno. But so was stock sled on npps dyno. Head still made same horsepower difference. As it did on powder freaks dyno.
With that said, I have a dynotech research account. The dtr dyno and powderfreaks dyno read pretty much the same on a stock 850s from what I’ve been following.

Really only matters what happens on the snow I guess.

I had a 2000 700 summit. I ported the cylinders did a head n shim kit from jaws and twin hooters. I dynoed it and it made 135 hp. That sled would eat most 800’ ho’s that were supposedly 150+ So yes depends how much hp gets to ground.

Haha it was 10% more HP Dan.. I distinctly remeber that claim when watching the release of the 850.... and that was when I decided the XM was likely going to be the last doo I owned.
