It happened...

Been on Polaris for 14 years and finally made the jump to try the Gen 4.

It was a bit of a business decision as i had quite a few people ask if I could figure out the clutching on the Gen 4. See how this goes!!!!

That’s Awesome! Congrats on the new whip, looking forward to see what you come up with. Hopefully I will get the chance to ride it!

I already made some changes based on what maxwell and I were able to find out last year. These clutches are a pain to work on compared to the polaris team set up.

Its unfortunate that you cant really change a primary or secondary spring up on the hill. Makes for tough tuning..

My 2018 g4 clutches work great but any R/D that results in improvements would be great.

This is what most Doo G-4 riders say when they use less $$ in belts than oil. What I am curious about is how your statement "clutches work great" is qualified?
Is it efficient? are clutches cool? Do you get quick backshift and agressive upshift? Are you RPM's spot on? Is the engagement smooth or jerky? The Doo's I have ridden leave a lot on the table for improvement.

I feel the 850 seems to hit a wall with track speed
the 2014 xm i had was the same till i changed a few things but
the 850s I have rode seem even worse thus why im still on a 2016
My boy just bought a 850 so we will see but keep us in the loop as we ride 40 plus days a year
and I sure it will need some tweaking

Lots of the same experience with the guys I have spoken with. After taking the Pdrive apart and weighing everything, i know that there can be some significant improvements. The quick clicker set up is so heavy.. .like 86 grams heavy. And the primary spring, depending on year and track length can be anywhere from a 170-350 to a 200-400. Pretty stiff spring to overcome.

The gearing is great at 21-53. So the goal here is making this set up more efficient. The first thing to go is the quick clicker set up.... I think its kind of dumb anyways. If the sled was clutched right you wouldn't need to adjust it. Now just need some snow to test in.

Not at all, I'm just positive about him buying a Doo to figure out the clutching. It is the only way to really know what is going on. I wish I could justify doing the same as I really think that 850 should produce better results as it feels really strong down low.

Doo clutching hasn’t ever been great !!
Okay for the masses but lots left on the table for performance.

I believe most Doo guys are not interested in getting more out of their sleds if they run fine for their riding style.
I like my sled to run as efficient as I can get it and assume others should feel the same way about their sled too. I sell 5:1 Polaris belt drive kits and 5:1 Arctic Cat belt drives for every Doo kit. Doo has lots to gain with a belt drive too as the chain is long and heavy. Not sure if Dragonweld is going to find enough customers to make it pay off. I hope he does well with this project.

Is the secondary and jack shaft the same as the XM?

I've changed springs and helix's on the hill before on the XM platform, one just has to change out the torx head bolts that hold the helix in to a hex head bolt in the shop once. After that it sure makes life easy serving/changing settings in the secondary.

Way more to be gained in clutching than a belt drive...

And half the cost. Belt drives aren't what there all cut out to be.

I agree. I did a belt drive before, and other than the cool factor and simple ratio changes. I didn’t see the gain for the price. Especially the gate belts. My buddy and i had the exact same sleds and pushing a cold sled off the deck was a chore over a the same sled with a chain.

The lightweight doo bottom gear definitely is better than the older heavier ones.

Its not the exact same, jackshaft is shorter on the G4. But your idea will work the same. There is a tool to remove the torx helix bolts now.
