I ride with pretty much all Doo's and I don't know a single person that has had belt issues on their 17. I got 868 km on my first belt.(260lb rider usually WOT) I'm old and fat and this sled makes me look good, maybe that's why I like it so much. sure I'm biased but the only thing that really outperformed this sled in the trees was a 610 KTM with a 137" Yeti kit.
If you can get one for 10K with less than 2500 km on it, I'd ay Doo it.

Didn’t you have to leave one on the mountain for 3 weeks before it got flown out?

Yes I did.
The same sled I’ll be riding this year. The issue I had was a broken wiring connection under the key post. Ski-Doo was very good to deal with.
In 20 years, this was only the second time I’ve choppered a sled off of the mountain.

Say a guy...I dunno, any guy....some dude who sledded 20 + yrs then got out...had lotsa sleds but mostly DooDoos....say he wanted to come back and was interested in a used 2017 850. I haven’t been paying attention, honestly...so no sure if these things are junk or what. I see a few on Kijiji for under $10k. What’s it mean “all factory updates done”? I heard rumblings of belt eating...do these updates fix that? Is the engine any good? Thanks for opinions/info guys.

Sorry, once you leave you are not allowed back, well at least without a vote that is. ; )

I think a guy should call his ol' buddy Joe and chat him up about HIS 2017 that he loves and would not give you 2 cents for an 18 or a 19. (no fkin need to) hahaha

The engine is great.
There can be a few wiring loom problems (tyraps too tight wearing through wires)
Get the latest BRP warranty updates for "gearing" (if its a 154), then drop to a 19 top.
Get the latest-n-greatest clutching for it and umm...I think once you get used to the sled the way it handles - it'll be the joy of your life riding a ski-doo, once again.

...yep, that's my take.

Sorry to say Joe, last winter in 3 months I seen more 17 850 motors toast than all the years of 800

Even a couple with 2 in one day, one wasn't even out of break in yet from New motor at start of last winter

Yes the pull great, and work good

But no way is a Polaris towing me down, so rocking the t3174 till brp gets there sh!t together or I switch to a alpha

Don't worry you can drink a few teas before you get roped up behind a Polaris so the high speed doesn't scare you too much.

Back in the day when I firsted started to sled, I had a 97 kitty powder special 580 efi that died every 300 km, I got towed a lot

So now I ride a doo and do the towing

I have a 17 summit X 165 3" that I am selling. I have had no problems with mine, I got over 3400km on my 2nd belt and changed it only because I thought I should. Mine has run like a top and never missed a beat. It did have the antifreeze leak in the first year, but they replaced the water pump with the updated one and no leak since.

That being said it does have 4900km on it but I ride in the Kakwa area and we have 35 MILE trail one way to get into the good stuff, so that is some of the reason km add up.

It still has 2 years warranty and it comes with a skid plate, clutching and gearing, custom wrap, and a spare belt. I would probably take $8000 for it.

Pm me if anyone is interested.

I tried to post pictures but havent figured that out yet, I'll have to get my daughters to show me, haha.

Buy a XM or T3, less disappointment when it sits there and you realize you can’t get out as much as you think you will. I’m thinking of jumping back in as well, Joe is just about ready.

That was my thinking when I bought my 15 t3 last year. Been a good sled so far.

Nice to hear your thinking of coming back Dave, always missed your no BS posts.
I have a 17 165 2.5"and an 18 174 3"and have really had no issues with either. Lost a bolt out of a A arm on the 17 and that's been it. It doesn't have many k on it, 800 or something tho is all. I bought it as a spare and thought with the smaller track I might ride it around home occasionally but that never happens so I'm going to sell it soon if anyone is interested! Not doing the kijiji thing because I'm old and have no patience for the morons on there!
if I had one piece of advise for anyone getting back into sledding it would be to just buy a stock whatever and just go ride the dam thing. No turbos or any bull**** like that! Once you get a bit older who wants to piss around with stuff all the time, make riding simple and easy and it will be fun again no matter what brand your on!

As previously stated, option could be to find a 15-16 T3 174, see the odd one with under a 1000km for $8-9k.
