Woke up after a day of riding to my steering frozen solid and booth my boots packed with ice and ruptured. Why? this is not good for my riding I like to be able to steer my sled.

If you are parking outside in the elements maybe a little maintenance is required before you shut down. Even with the full skid plate a person is wise to remove the snow/sluch/ice before leaving out for the night. I don't have that problem as my sled is either in a heated shop or when it is outside it isn't cold enough to cause a problem.

What do u expect it’s a snowmobile , whenever I spend the night somewhere I just kick off any snow and clean around steering but ya if u leave in a heated shop I guess it’s a none issue just sayin

Knock the ice off the day before, if your talking the boot where your stering rods go inside, I seen one off as well, put back on and a twist tie.. Not the best idea from doo, but it works.. Heated trailers have bennifits

Thanks Guys!, wish I could take my heated trailer with me through the bush to the cabin so I could park my sled in there over night. Kinda ridiculous to suggest a snowmobile needs to be stored in a heated space after every use. How do you clean off snow that is inside the machine though? You must have some magic skills I don't. you can't get to it to clean it out. it is frozen cock stiff right throu from one side to the other. Its a snowmobile so using it in the cold and deep snow is not good for it? man o man.. is there a snowmobile that doesn't do this maybe I'll buy that one.

Front nose screens? it's the biggest deep powder sled Ski Doo makes, I need to modify it so it will work? again ridculous. I have read up on the screens and seems ski doo doesn't offer one that works worth a dam so maybe I'll order ones from Extreme that are on back order for 2 weeks or maybe make my own so my 20k sled works the next morning after deep powder riding in the cold. Thanks for the insight but you don't find this dumb? people have been talking about this since they got their 2017's. Great thread on Dootalk from 2016 and youtube videos from guys. Will see what my dealer says and does for me and will post back.

couldn't agree more. the manufactures know what they are doing(all of them). Sleds should not to designed to have to come in every night and spend it by a furnace or wood stove, sledders do not sleds.I don't own a doo but my axys I do park in my heated garage to thaw it out otherwise the belt drive which is usually plugged solid with snow might give me grief. these sleds cost way too much these days not to be designed so you don't have to spend more money on them in order to ride them in deep powder days... IMO

Just great, and I was going to go trade mine in for an Pro RMK this morning, but realized this happens on more then just SkiDoo sleds

Morning Mike,


I had a bad issue with my sled over the weekend. Ice built up inside the boots and through the machine overnight. It ruptured my boots and locked up my steering. I have a tripped planned west for this weekend. I would like to be able to get the boots replaced and the steering inspected to make sure nothing is bent. I am hoping this is a warranty issue as I didn't miss use this sled at all.


I am reading about this happening with other people but also that it has been an issue on other sleds and other OEM/s.

I had similar issues with mine. I took care of it by greasing the inside and outside of the boots where the steering shaft slides on the bushing with vaseline. I caught mine before they tore. Even in the shop on the stand they were binding and not sliding without stretching excessively. Seems to be all good now past few rides.

Willing to try it, talked to the Polaris dealer and he offered me 10k for my sled I paid 22k with accessories for 3 months ago. I am in an episode of the twilight zone right. Off to get some vaseline.

Gen 4 Summit X 175 in Blue with 600 miles, sweet ride for Sale 15,000 CND funds takes it. Comes with bags, gas tank, snowboard rack, reinforced re-bumper.

your not following me. no it won't people the ice is not just in the boots it's through out the whole inside of the machine frozen around the steering. You can't get to it and hitting my boots with a rubber malt to break up the ice won't do anything inside the machine. The polaris hood comes off with a couple clicks and you can clean out any snow. It also has a place for it to drain out. This isn't snow building up this is water building up and freezing through the whole cavity of the machine. It locks up the steering and gets progressively worse this is a safety issue of the 9'th degree. Garbage .. a rubber hammer some vaseline and a heated trailer.. just great maybe i'll hit myself with a metal hammer to fix the issue.

I just dropped it off and how funny was it to keep getting off the sled, pick up the back point in the right direction and ride for a bit stop pick up point it again and drive some more. yeah, am I doing it right?

Sorry to say bud but you will not get 15.....maybe 12.
I got offered a 9 max for mine on trade at doo.......less at Cat dealer.
Game changers in resale value.

You got Vaselined when you bought it.
Bes to keep it two years and the first year hit will no be so bad. Just part of being G4 owner.
Just unload before warranty up - 6-8k for motors that are apparently dropping like flies snorting raid.

OMG seriously? I am keeping it, buying a polaris and getting a short position in Ski-doo once bombardier splits the divisions this is going to get ugly

I'll make my money back on these guys one way or another

Well once the zip ties pop off the bushings Ya snows gonna get in there. Fix the boots use better zip ties on the bushings lube that bitch up and it will be better
