So my ‘17 g4 wasn’t idling the best when I loaded to head out to Golden but I just figured it’s been sitting in my shop for a month, no big deal, it’ll clean up. Get to silent pass parking lot on Friday, sun was shining, gonna be a great day I figure. Sled fires up first pull, idles for a minute then dies. Fire up again, idles for five minutes, dies again, fire up third time, burn around parking lot for a bit, seems fine, good to go. Get on trail, running great, trail is super smooth, cruising along at 90-100km/hr and it died like somebody hit the kill switch, wtf, check connections on everything, pull the ignorant pos hood off, found no issues. Fkn thing will not start. Finally fires but only runs on one. Get TOWED back by my buddies cat ?, spend rest of day in parking lot trying to diagnose while buddies rode. Called a few dealers and no real suggestions other than maybe spark plugs, cmon, fk me, it was running fine down the smooth trail, plugs don’t just magically foul at 7000rpm, or possibly a piston, but with only 850k on it I hope not. Sled is equipped with a redline low boost kit but since Dave’s controller just adds fuel in proportion to boost and I was barely pulling any boost on the flat trail, highly doubt its turbo related. Kit was installed roughly 150km ago. Last trip out also had knock sensor issues but made repair on the hill and didn’t seem to be an issue any longer.
Suggestions??

Had a buddy with a 17 had a stator or ignition coil crap the bed when it was new. Same thing you described cruising and someone hit the kill switch.

My money is on a broken ignition coil wire too.

Stators either work or they don't.

Tell your dealer to call BRP, it may be a RFID module. Talk to Martin Motorsports, they have experienced this. It is a module that has something to do with the key communicating with the computer.

Check the injector wires they've been zip tied too tight and have been pulling out or breaking off on the 17s

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but take into account that once a dealer plugs into your sled on BUDS you are on borrowed time for any warranty work down the road if someone at BRP chooses to look at any BUDS files on your serial number. They killed the warranty on a customer's sled of ours that had ran a turbo and then removed it after his motor blew and they had looked at his BUDS history report. They saw the air intake numbers were through the roof and immediately killed all his extended warranty even after we offered to send them pics of the sled in the shop. Just a heads up guys for your information.

I had an issue with shorted grip heaters that was somewhat similar to your situation. You can try disconnecting them to rule it out. Connector for them is under the hood on the right hand side, there is a group of three grey connectors. I believe it was the middle one in the group. Keep in mind when you disconnect the plug your kill switch will no longer shut the engine down.

Thanks for the heads up, honestly not too worried about warranty, just want the fkn toilet to run. Had two out of two trips ruined this year so not a very good average hahaha. Might have to buy a spare sled if his keeps up lol

Lost a 850motor on my 18 last month, no apparent reason.. Just died.. Thank god no turbo was installed yet as I was planning to do install a week later.. And it would of been blamed for its destruction sure as sh1t..

starting to to have second thoughts on turbo in this motor.. As I'm not to sure it's as strong as brp as lead us to beleve, dealer says a a ring stuck a port, no reason why.. Will it happen again, sure could

thank got for the trusty 800 etecs..

My buddies 18 cat dropped and skirt and put a hole in the cases after 82km. Can happen to all of them. Can't say all doos are crap after reading a few stories on the internet. 2000km on my 850 now and it has been flawless.

Im not saying they are crap at all, Im just saying i own 2 xms one of witch is boosted, never had an issue with all the abuse, and i have an 850 silber turbo... and ive put some beating on it as well... i haven't had any issues as of yet. But it seems the ratio of good ones to lemons is higher then previous years. I always thought of skidoo as pretty much a bullet proof machine. seems like since 17 they have had more issues then i think are acceptable, and im not a fan of how the they are getting stingy on warranty. Thats just my opinion. The whole belt issue... that was a complete mess.

So to keep this up to date, As per the most common theme from others, I decided to pull the plugs, wow, not a sweet job for a guy with giant mits, see attached for pto side, covered in some nasty goopy two stroke goodness, was not expecting to be that bad, then I pulled mag side, not too bad but cleaned them both up to just about good as new, put me back in and same thing, won’t start without having to nurse the flipper like a poorly jetted Indy fkn storm, still not throwing any codes. Maybe tomorrow I’ll actually try a new set of plugs and see if that helps. I am really starting to wonder after seeing plugs that gross if this isn’t an injector or reed issue. Thanks to all those with valid input. Kanedouche, suck it Hahaha
