i love my boosted xm. and i love xms in general. But when i do buy another machine im thinking it could be a boosted axys. Im thinking another 850 will be off the table for me.
Buddy loves his and wouldn't go back to xm and remember 3 times more doos then rest...

A bore scope would revel a lot of you problems, send it down the spark plug hole and see the top of the piston.

as for a compression test, throttle needs to be wide open. Should be 90% of compression in 3-4 pulls. Skidoo typically run 130-140psi. You sir are way too low on both.

raves will have nothing to do with the test. Reeds could by slowing compressed intake charge flow back out.

That’s a bold statement fella, you’re saying that because a guy works his ass off to to be able to afford the toys he wants and the mods he wants, the manufacturer should turn their backs on them? I spent the same amount of money at the dealer on my sled and accessories as the next guy, I agree that there might be situations where accessories are the direct cause of failure and manufacturers should have the rite to refuse repairs in said situations, but those are few and far between.
You added a turbo, now you need engine work. Sounds like it is on you. Why should BRP care or do anything regardless of what you spent, and don't think for one second BRP is the only company to do this. Go buy an Axys like several have mentioned on here, turbo it and if at some point the engine goes down I'll bet polaris will NOT cover it.

And buy gym membership in between.. Three weeks and counting, for a three hr swap job of motors, ( love warrenty)if I keep this slug I will be looking for a spare motor real soon


Zero worries, if engine happens to go down I will drop it off and pick it up when completed. Not much to worry about that eh.

Don't his problems...previous to the compression test, sound like a certain boosted XM that is parked in Golden right now. Same/similar aftermarket accessory installed. Died like kill switch was hit, but that sled started each time every time after it died though.

Aside from your low compression and that you have a turbo. Your symptoms sound similar to mine, I'm stock other than can. I had a main engine harness go bad last year, the secondary injector wires were rubbing and caused a short. I had that harness replaced and the second harness is now done. The wires to the TPMS sensor were rubbing on a hose clamp. The sled would just die and then start back up without a code. The harness has been updated with a new part number at least 3 times. The harness is a bitch to install and if you have a tech that doesn't take the time to install it correctly you'll have problems.

see what the boys in g-town say but what is posted above seems like a good thing to look over as well.

mayby the air box is rubbing up against the tps wires, I know when I was building my air box I had to do a lot of trimming to make sure it wasn’t rubbing.

ENGINE COMPRESSION TEST
1. Remove body parts as required to access to the
spark plugs.
2. Lift rear of vehicle to clear track from the
ground. Support it with a wide base stand.
WARNING
Prior to measuring engine compression, ensure
vehicle is properly lifted with the track
off the ground.
3. Safely warm up engine.
4. Remove a spark plug.
5. Install an appropriate ENGINE COMPRESSION
TOOL on engine.
Place emergency engine stop switch to OFF position.
Crank engine several times:
– Pull rewind starter several times (if applicable) -
or
– Press START/STOP button to crank engine.
Check if engine compression is according to specification.
SERVICE LIMIT
ENGINE
COMPRESSION
SPECIFICATION
7.5 bar (110 PSI)

Seen the same as mentioned above got dragged off the truck at the dealer today, started and shut off in a few seconds, no codes, WtF

They’ve updated a plastic wire housing that sits on top of the head. It comes with the new updated harness. The way they have the harness routed there is so many places where it can rub a wire out. I found a second bad wire behind the thermostat housing.

So I was going to pull off my ECU tonight to send away for the turbo flash, but figured I should check compression first, before I void my warranty. Getting 100psi on both sides. Sled was running fantastic last time out. Checked with a second gauge, same result. Not sure if something is wrong or not but either way it's headed to the dealer in the am.
Hey leafmaple is that 110psi service limit the lowest acceptable compression or is that what a guy should expect it to be? 2005km on the machine btw.

That's the service limit. Typically above 140 psi on a newer engine is the norm.

IIRC you want both holes to be within 10% of each other. One being more than 10% lower indicates a possible problem with that cylinder.

Not yet, didn’t get it over to Dave until yesterday afternoon, checked it with buds and found no codes that I didn’t already know about that are unrelated. Leak down and borroscope will tell more today. I did talk to dealer again, a couple of them actually, won’t name them but they both said BRP is on the warranty war path, any and all motor work, even if it’s just a piston, will require pictures and a full buds report.

Don't have a dog in the fight here but I remember seeing all the comments and suppositions that this new Doo engine was designed and built with boost in mind ?? Not sure if those ideas were the result of inferences or suggestions from Doo engineers (or maybe salesmen) or just Doo zealots needing additional reasons to justify a purchase, but there sure seems to be a vocal backlash now against anyone who boosts or is thinking of it. I get it, unrealistic to expect full warranty if you choose to boost but I would think it should maybe be a bit dependant on type of failure , which component etc. probably similar with other brands but I recall way more talk about this new 850 being built to boost, am I wrong ?
