So BRP and dealers are stepping up and looking after customers with some "apparent" problem fixes. I used the word apparent because with two of the 2017's we had no problems or issues whatsoever. 4000 km and not a belt! Others weren't so lucky according to the internet guru's.

My question is this: what would you do or have done for an upgrade? Sleds run great so would any of the upgrades be a liability?

There are motor shims, throttle block assembly, gearing, bulkhead brace kit, finned secondary, different belt, and maybe one or two that I have forgotten or don't know about.

Thanks for all the positive replies; the negative ones or bashing ones, not so much thanks.

No throttle block assy Doug just a warranty bulletin that just came out for a possible loose screw and wiring harness chafing. This has nothing to do with belt life bud.

IMG_6969.jpg I did add all the bracing last winter as i do tend to hit stuff lol, i did have issues with my 850 but my dealer has been working with me, i plan to add some extra venting this year. I only got 500 kms on it last year hoping to get alot more this season. I will also be running the new belt this year as i did pop one belt in the 500 kms my issues were mostly oil related last year but i beleave the issue is now fixed. My good friend did crack his bulkhead and brp did cover it he sold the sled recently and will be riding a cAt again this year. I did take a very big hit straight on last year when the sled came down without me on it straight into the biggest tree in fernie, it did less damage then i thought it would have and i added all the bracing while i had the sled apart i was very suprised it took the hit as well as it did.

I think most peps know the issues I had with my 850.
The updates that are being offered along with last winter's updates are going to make a lot of troubled owners satisfied for riding peace of mind on belt longevity.
Should be a good sled now.

Maybe the wobbly clutch and the piano string tight track bearings will last - who knows - that's the only long term weaknesses I saw.

I just purchased a 2017 165 x with 980 Kms and was told by the previous owner he never had any issues and he still had everything bone stock! Clutch cover was never drilled out and no foam removed, so I'm debating what I should do to it! I am doing the brace for sure and was thinking of added some venting in side panels along with drilling a large hole in cvt cover like the 2018s have!
Also called the dealer and was told just throttle body and some wiring was issued for a recall !

So should I do the re gear and pto shims ? And maybe change the cvt calibration? But maybe that would be dumb if it is running good! Have to wait to ride it I guess and see for myself !

I will be getting all the updates done as there is alot of belt heat and hoping the updates help with the issue, but your idea sounds the best try it and if it works for you dont change the clutching, but regardless i would get the rest done

Well I think all of you guys should install a blow hole. Not that you need it. Fun to write down - even more fun to say. Actually sounds like not a bad idea if anyone is having heating issues.

Anybody have the SHOT starter?

I like the blow hole idea too but at 300 bucks I'll wait and see if the vents make a difference !

i checked a shot start 165. I Pick it up this weekend in sicamous. Fingers crossed. I've never seen more than 800km per belt on any sled I've owned except my nytros. They were boosted belt spitters before I took them to nick king. Courtenay motorsports will take care of me should I have big issues.

Are they actually changing something on the wiring harness, or just checking it? Ive heard from some people that some stuff is being replaced. Im pretty sure the local dealer said that they are just going to check it though. Does anyone have any solid info on this?

Part of the campaign 2017-11 is to check for chaffing on the secondary injector wires and adding boot protectors, re routing the wires/ zip tieing differently. If there is chaffing it will be fixed either by fixing that one spot or replacing complete engine harness. Also the injectors are re torqued down with new bolts. A fuel hose is checked for chaffing and a collar is installed to hold hose in a certain position from rubbing on the frame. An o-ring added over coil wires to hold away from injectors. And throttle body screw nut is replaced.

165 x with e start, seat bag, tunnel bag and gas caddy in near mint shape for $12 500!
i think I did pretty good !
Certainly sounds like a good deal. If it went almost 1000 K Bone stock I would approach any changes carefully. At the very least, take a ride or two and decide. Ferniesnow had one (or two - I forget right now) and he had no issues. Maybe you should ask him what he would do had he kept it.

Thanks ya I was thinking the same thing ! I was at the dealer today and was told the only recall mine is due for is the fuel screw and that the engine mount shim and gear change was only for the 154" track! I don't know what to believe I hear some people get the dealer covering everything including brace and mine says they are doing nothing to mine !

I just checked the bulletin. This is for the 165 models as well.

2017-9 Gearing change
2017-10 Shims added on PDM side
2017-11 Loose fuel screws on throttle body, engine harness chafing so a couple harnesses relocated and changed around

All covered on warranty for 154 and 165 Summits Go to your dealer and tell him he needs to check Bossweb. There are updates to bring the 2017 up to 2018 standards but those are customer pay. Some dealers have programs to cover some of the costs of these upgrades for their customers.
