New to sledding and just picked up my first real sled. 2005 summit 1000. I have very little experience and cant get the thing started. When I push start it starts beeping at me and flashing the battery symbol (The battery was replaced at the end of last season), as i pull it over the beeping stops while it has a little charge but then continues. I tried over and over again to start it. Eventually flooding it. After letting it sit for a while in my garage There was a puddle of fuel and oil on the ground, a very rich mixture. I have less than basic knowledge so please dumb it down for me.

Beeping is for dead battery. Shouldnt flood as its fuel injected. Dont squish the gas while you re pulling.

I did push the throttle once or twice as i was dicking around with it, its mostly oil on the ground though with a slight smell of fuel, maybe this could be from the oil injection? Thanks for the battery tip, I guess I will take it out and get it tested and replace if need be.

Those sleds need a battery every year or they don't run right. The computer is very finicky. Sounds like maybe the oil bottle was left full and some of it has seeped into the motor. If you really have less than basic knowledge then this isn't the sled for you, or you need to spend some hours reading and researching. These sleds have a poor reputation and for good reason, that said there are guys that have gotten them figured out. Head over to the dootalk forum and search the rev mountain section for a thread by Lund called "rt1k mods that get the most from your RT" or something along those lines. The Mach Z from the same year is virtually the same sled so also read all the stickies in the mach z section of dootalk. Also look for a thread in the mach z section called "mach 1000 problems" by Tom Warga. After you have done about 2 days of reading you should be ready to start turning this thing into a capable mountain sled that doesn't get embarrassed by stock 800's. Once you get it all figured you should be able to make it work for about $1000 and two days of work.

Thanks, That is more than Helpful. The oil bottle was indeed left full, There is also a good chance that the battery is shot. I know that i am a novice with an advance sled and will have my work cut out for me but I learn better getting thrown in head first. I'm 28, 215lb and in pretty good shape, working the oilfield with more money than brains, so this could be right up my alley. Thanks again for the tips, I will follow them.

Nice, you beat me to it. Rts will beat you up alot quicker than the newer, lighter rides. Smaller guys have a hard time throwing them around in the 2nd half of the day

I'm 5ft 10 and 210. Not a stranger to the gym and enjoy a good work out. I'm also a Trucker and slowly putting on the pounds so the work out will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the heads up, I started hitting the gym again more constantly when I bought the sled 2 months ago in preparation.

Yup......... Replace your battery yearly, and replace the 3 relays in the fuse box every second year. You can get the bosch style relays from napa or bumper to bumper. The contacts inside the relays corrode and then can cause similar problem to what you have..... They are only about $9 each, so replace all 3........they are for the fuel pumps and injector circuits.

Replace your battery and the 3 relays, and i bet it starts. You might pull the spark plugs and clean them off or better yet replace them(cheap insurance).

Yeah I was having issues with fouling plugs so I adjusted the idle up a bit (still in recommended range) and switched from a 9 heat range to an 8. Haven't fouled a plug since!

Got New Battery (it was shot), New Spark Plugs and Injector relays are all good. Went to fire it up an it floods out right away (does not start at all, also not holding throttle). Bnorth sujested i pull plugs, hit kill switch and have theather conected, hold throtle open and dry fire it to get out all the fuel. I did this for maybe 50 pulls but fuel just kept coming. 20min later fuel is still dripping out of my exhaust. Fuel injetors stuck?

once you have changed the battery and the relays and it still floods take it take it to the dealer and get it remaped to 07 mid elevation i did that and starts great. put a set of k&n air pods it or a timbersled air intake will protect the motor from belt dust, also do lp fuel pump mod

I ran an RT for a year no major problems, that sled will make you a better rider, after throwing that tank around then going back to an 800 chassis, wow, felt like i could out do Chris Burandt (maybe if Burandt was on a kitty cat i could have) don't regret it, good learning experience, make sure you get a fuel controller on it if there isn't one already. IMO. Good luck if anyones going to help with it, its the guys on here.:D

I like those sleds.....You wont touch one of those machines when they are running tip top though. I rode summitRics RT on the trail a little bit last year in swan hills... Elbow stretcher. I think your going to want a little more than less to little sled knowledge to own one though! Not a begginers machine at all.

Started out on an RT1000 last winter first sled yes they are a lot to throw around but still a good fun sled and the power is unbelievable! I'm sure i will benefit from having this as a first sled when i switch to a newer 800 next winter. I'm Hooked!
