I know its a long shot, ....but,.... has anyone ever dealt with the 800R randomly bogging out under load, and generally running like $hit for short periods of time. It seemed to go through fuel and oil really quick while this was happening too.

We've checked all the obvious things and found nothing, dealer says "cant duplicate the problem".

Save the wise cracks about trading it in for another brand, we're heading out on our first trip in a few days, and 'm not sure we've identified the problem. Best I can tell, this is the sort of thing these forum sites are here for, right?

sounds like a fuel problem drain the tank and fill with fresh number 1 also wouldn't hurt for some fuel additive I use Torco accelerator. I had the same problem with a quad this summer and that was my problem. hope that helps

It doesn't feel like a fuel issue, but I'll try anything, thanks for your comment

But A little more info would be useful, is this a bog from WOT, letting off than rolling on the trottle and than it bogs? Have you had the clutches updated?
I would check the connection to the ecm, try unplugging it and blowing it out with compressed air, than use die-electric grease on the pins and plug it back in. I havn't had this problem yet but I've heard of this before. But with this complaint it's usually the engine is cutting out, and not a bog

I read an article about the 800R engines not cooling well enough and the pistons get a bit tight in the bore making it feel boggy . I don't think this could happen for very long or very often before you would have scoring issues but that's what I read on a site where they were trying to sell a kit with pistons with different rings and I think a different head... supposed to give you more power. You said it seemed to use more fuel and oil, does it smoke lots at those times?:twocents:

It didn't smoke a huge amount, but it did smell of fuel.

It definitly bogged under load, it wouldn't open up for a big climb, just bog out and smell of fuel. we would wait a while, pull on it for a bit, then it would fire up and run okay for a bit, then act up again.

The clutches are current to the latest update offered by Doo this fall.

I will look into the ECM conection, and fuel draining ideas, thank you for the comments

Could it be a fault in the Carbs. I was thinking that your dealer may not dulicate it because he isn`t climbing under load. Maybe with the sled leaning back, under load and moving around extra fuel is coming out of the carbs. So maybe a float problem or a seal/gasket. Hope you find the problem.

maybe an air lock
i read on dootalk one time that a few guys had issues with the breather tube
i cant remember the solution but one way to check is if the sled wont pull over crack the gas cap try again and if she works ya know the problem i think the brether tube gets pinched or something
might help

Could it be your reeds are warped ? When they get hot it acts up. Does it run good when cold? Just throwing darts.

Abuddy had sort of the same symptoms on his 06 800, what he found was an air hose partially off for the DPM. When he worked the sled it'd default to sea level (or lowest altitude DPM is set for)and dump in a bunch of fuel causing bog. idle for a while or shut it off and it'd run ok for a while then do it again.

If it only bogs on a climb and not on the flats then 4extreme might be onto something with the floats, they must be set to proper position and if just one has come loose then bowl could overfill with gas and on full throttle climb be trying to throw all that gas into engine. I had a float get all gummed up with varnish on a Yammy v-max causing a bog at full pull, cleaned it up and was good.

I had the same probklem with mine. It was the ecm . But what is ur sled reving at. Is it a little low. Cause it might be the VAC line off the rave valve on one cylinder. This was a problem last year on some sleds. All i have to do on mine now is get it to stop vibrating so bad so i can hold onto the dam thing. It vibrats bad.

Powderchowder had that same problem on his 06 the first time he had it in the mountains. Plugged the hose back on and never looked back.

Do you have the carb water heater turned on when its not needed. Carbs get to hot and fuel floods? This happened this last spring on a sled we were riding with.

some 800r's had real issues with the electronic rave valves. If you call the dealer or search Doo talk there is a thread with the check meathod. They also had a vacume hose on the right side with a fitting smaller than the id of the hose and you need to cut the factory crimp off and replace with a gear clamp.

Do you have an aftermarket can on it?

On my '07 the needle jet was so lean it would sound like it was running on one cylinder and bog. If it still runs good at WOT, with it running in the main jets, this may be your problem. Mine would run good however with the stock muffler on. Took me a while to figure out why it ran like crap with a can on. Just another shot in the dark. Good luck.

WE FIGURED IT OUT

After taking it in to the dealer for the third time, and getting the standard response, we ended up going to the mountains and found that it was only acting up when we were at elevations over +/- 5000ft, so we swapped out DPM's with another 800R, and the issue went where ever DPM went, so we called Paul at McBride Ride n Hide from the Sat Phone, and we were all fixed up and running 100% the next day.

A huge thank you to Paul at McBride Ride n Hide, the roads were terrible that night, and his driver was un-able to get our new DPM into McBride in time for us to sled the next day, so he went over and above, and actually sold us the DPM out of his own new RevXP, its guys like Paul that make the difference out there, we really appreciated the great service. I'm not sure our local city dealer would go to that length to make us happy.
